Anyone had similar problems?

Posted by Momsie on August 15, 2001, at 15:43:11

Have a son who has been on Effexor 75 for 2 yrs.
He is doing better than on Paxil or any of three others.
Over the past two years has had 3 episodes of agression
with either a girlfriend or boyfriend that ends in him
being beaten up. Has no recollection of what caused it.
It is when alcohol is consumed.
Observers say that "he gets really freaky and just starts
verbally aggressing", "only physical intervention ends it".
Physician suggests uping the dosage.
Knows that alcohol is a no no.

How much alcohol? I have also seen kids not on any meds react that way to alcohol.
How old is your son?

Thanks, CB...Son is 23. Between 3 and 4 beers in a
5 hour timeframe. One of the aggressive episodes did
not involve alcohol.

> Momsie- my son's doctors have put him on a mood stabiliizer and zyprexa in an attempt to keep him from getting irritable and agressive (from the SSRIs)... which still aren't keeping him from getting depressed!
If your son didn't have these reacctions before the meds, maybe he should ask his dr about this??I don't know how much of my son's reactions are due to adolesence (he's almost 17)
