Can someone please explain THIS: ??!??

Posted by Janelle on July 15, 2001, at 21:05:29

Somewhere above and I just cannot find the right thread anymore, someone (might've been SalArmy4Me or PellMell) explained WHY with these psychiatric meds (a-d's, a-p's, mood stabilizers, etc.), you feel the SIDE EFFECTS first, right away/immediately but it takes like 4-6 weeks (sometimes longer) to feel any positive (or negative!) results?????????

I want to make a copy of that explanation and just can't seem to find the thread it was under. I'd appreciate it if whoever knows this could please put it under here again. HELP! Thanks and sorry for any inconvenience.

Janelle - Here is something that I wrote last year. I hope that it is what you are looking for.

Janelle,
Though popular theory and popular practice says it takes 4 to 6 weeks, that in my own experience is just not true. Going back in the archives of this board, and by looking deeply into scientific studies, there is ample evidence that when someone encounters the correct drug for them, good results without side effects can be experienced in as little as a few days to two weeks. By good results, I mean there is a strong hint of goodness. Total recovery does take longer, but the right drug will make itself known early. If a drug is not hitting a bullseye, then yes, it will take time to cause chain reactions and maybe eventually get around to the real underlying problem. Maybe not.

Those who subscribe to the 6 week thing have thousands of books and writings to back it up. But they are all onesided and leave out important details that refute what they say.
John
