wrong expectations?

Posted by Roxk on June 28, 2001, at 12:13:53

Maybe someone can help me out with this. I've tried prozac for 21/2 months, effexor the same amount and i'm about to start wellbutrin. Maybe i'm expecting this lightbulb, everthing is wonderful attitude expectations but all i know is i'm still tired even more with the effexor. I can sleep 10 hours and i'm still exhausted.I'm still angry at most parts of the day. I'm impatient and irritated all the time. I feel like trying to do anything fun isn't worth the effort or frustration to do. I've tried walking which i did for about six weeks about 21/2 to 4 miles a day. This didn't help my mood. the biggest thing i wanted help with was my mood swings. One minute i was o.k with things then everything really pissed me off. I have a two year old and a five year old and i "raise" 8 boys for a job. Yes it is HIGH STRESS but i thought ad's were supposed to help you cope. Maybe someone can help me see what i really need to be expecting an ad to do for me.

It may not sound like it, but I think you'll KNOW when you feel better.

The first thing Wellbutrin did for me was...just one day, I woke up, looked at the ceiling, and WANTED to get out of bed. It was WEIRD! That was about a week into it. After that, things just got better and better, gradually...I started having energy and motivation, being able to enjoy jokes without worrying about their "hidden meaning", go out without worrying that people would look at me, etc. And I was mostly good for 3-4 years before it started to go downhill again.

Hang in there.

Have you looked at the hormonal angle? At the risk of making an assumption that may be wrong, I get the impression you are the mother of the 2 and 5 yo. When did your fatigue/depression start? Could there be a postpartum connection? Have you had a *good* evaluation of your thyroid status? Postpartum thyroiditis is relatively common.

Take a look at the Thyroid and Depression folder at psycho-babble-tips (link at top of Babble page).

My story: ADs helped a little, but the depression, fatigue, somnolence continued until my hypothyroidism was properly treated. Who knows if this is relevant for you, but I thought it is something you should hear about in case it is.
