Just wondering what kind of experience people have had with nortriptyline? Doctor just me on it for panic . Haven't started just yet. Hate starting something new because of all the side effects. I currently talk Klonopin for the anxiety and panic twice daily.

Thanks for your help!!! :0)

dee pop,

I didn't have much luck with Nortriptyline. My body seems to enjoy more side effects so I'm on Amitriptyline. Oh, and four other drugs right now, including Klonopin. I had a liver panel done today to make sure that I still have a liver.
Been on these meds a long time.
But enough about me...Nortriptyline is a wonder drug for many and a constipated nightmare for others. Give it a chance; I've seen several people on this board that have had good responses to Nortrip.
What dosage of Klonopin are you on, if you don't mind sharing that?

Phil

Unfortunately, Nortripytline didn't work at all for me. I was diagnosed with GAD and depression, approximately 10 years ago. I don't know what if anything has been attempted as treatment for you. My pdoc originally tried a beta blocker alone (little results), then a beta blocker and Xanax (no), then a beta blocker, ativan, and nortrip (the worst yet--increased depression with extremely dry mouth and constipation). I stayed on this regimen longer than I should have because I really wanted it to work. He later replaced the nortrip with prozac and that combo worked well for some time.
My intention in telling you all this is of course (as you may already know and as has been demonstrated on this page), that you may have to try it or others with various combinations. Also, my pdoc told me that even though I didn't have success with it, many people do!

I've been taking Nortiptyline for about 4 years now. I'm not going to quit any time soon. I first started with major depression, GAD and panic attacks. I took it with Klonopin to begin with and then weaned off of the Klonopin. Nortrip helped me a lot. I think that some of the older AD's are very effective and under-utilized these days. The only bad side effect I get from it is a dry mouth but that can be helped with lots of water and some sugar free mints.

I hope you give it a try and it works out for you.
