What do you think??

Posted by sandhi on June 9, 2001, at 20:39:57

Thanks for all the good info on Remeron. I rely on this site for all my mental illness problems. I've just been approved by the state to get financial help for seeing a pdoc. What can I expect? I saw him before and have been taking celexa ever since and I also take remeron from my regular doctor for insomnia. We never talked much because I couldn't afford to stay more than a half hour. I am 49 years old, going through menopause, poor, always in pain and am hoping he can show me how to be happy. Ha! Do you think therapy helps and how? Sometimes I wonder if a person really would be better off dead. Thanks for listening and please sent feedback. S

sandhi..Therapy can help us see where our patterns of thinking and our perceptions may be a little skewed. Hopefully, your therapist is a good match for you.
Do you feel like the meds are helping?
I wonder if I'd be better off dead sometimes, too. But I know it would really piss some of my friends and family off if I did myself in. I owe most of them money. They call me daily to make sure I'm taking my meds and going to work. Just kidding...must be a full moon tonight.

I am post menopausal and became destabilized I firmly believe because of my doctor's inability to see that lack of estrogen was worsening symptoms.

If you have noticed a deterioration of your mood during menopause, I recommend you see someone (maybe a gynecologist) about this issue.

Unfortunately by the time I started estrogen replacement therapy I had already become destabilized because of my doctor changing all the medications that had worked for over 10 years in an effort to overcome a mild depression which I believe was caused by estrogen.

I have yet to find anyone that can subtantiate the effect of estrogen decrease on cycling. But I am sure estrogen induced cycling and lack of estrogen induces depressive symptoms. The latter I believe is well documented.

Don't neglect the menopausal aspect.

>Do you think therapy helps and how?

,,,,,,,I think therapy helps because depression and most of the other dx's mentioned here are pretty disruptive to life in general. In therapy, depending on what kind you choose, you can focus on all manner of things to talk to a therapist about. At the very least, with a good therapist, it couldn't hurt.

>Sometimes I wonder if a person really would be better off dead.

,,,,,,,,If you're talking struck by lightning dead, I'm with ya. If you're talking do-it-yourself that's a much more serious propsition with who knows what kind of repercussions. I've usually felt the risks outweigh the hypothesized benefits.

Shar..You know, when you are approaching 50, not much to show for a lifetime of work, gaining weight daily from the meds, constipated, sex life is non-existent, your hairs falling out, your job sucks, and, as you and I know so well, it's coming to that special time in Texas where you can fry your eggs on the sidewalk, you better keep your sense of humor. : )

Thanks for the feedback, and I was on an estrogen patch and was feeling quite chipper except for the constant bleeding. I finally took it off because I was going broke buying feminine Hygiene products. I think I'll try it again but put on a half of patch. Thanks
