Scott- Zeldox

Sorry I have been through another episode and missed the general announcement of zeldox. I understand that it's being held up a month because it's name is similar to ? I know you're first in line, so please let me know how it works for you. (Zyprexa actually helped stabilize my mood, but I couldn't take the weight gain (ex-bulimic). How are you feeling? I am going to try the STEP-BD program, I figure I'll get all the latest stuff that way. Take care, Judy

Hi Judy.
I am not at all happy. Risperdal has not done the trick, and I am receiving almost no benefit from it at all. I thought we had something there. I'm sorry to hear that you had to fight another round with the beast. You are very resilient. I don't know what name "Zeldox" is similar to.

What is the STEP-BD program?

Be well.

Scott,
Sorry you are not well. I just live day to day and really try not to think too much (and I abuse opiates which my pdoc is aware of). STEP-BD is a 5 year program sponsored by the NIH/NIMH, I posted the site on the other forum, I think it was www.stepbd.com- if there is a site near you, maybe you can look into it. Zeldox is now Geodon I think, I really hope this is the one for you. Take care, Judy

Scott,

I guess you are the same scott that has posted about cortisol? Anyway, when I tried risperdal this past fall, I "felt like I had something there" too. It lasted a day. I tried Zyprexa (for depression/ anxiety)and the first night I took the drug I had a dream that I was completely well. In the dream I felt better than I had felt in 10 years. I awoke at 2am and got up and was thinking about how things might really be changing for me. That I had hit the miracle. It only lasted a brief half day. By the following days end, I was back to being dazed, sedated, without any hope.

Have you tried Miraprex? It seems to be the amisulpride of the month.

Thanks Jason.

Yes, Mirapex certainly makes the drug of the month club. I think it is a good idea for me. I'll let you know should I try it.

I know how great Zyprexa can feel for the first few days. I'm sorry that you had to share the same experience with it as I have. Always place such positive reactions, regardless of how small, on a list of possibly useful drugs to use in future combinations. That these drugs did anything at all is significant. I'll try to let you know how my doctor interprets the information my trial or Risperdal gives him and what decisions he makes based on that information. He has expressed an interest in Mirapex.

>Hi, Judy.
I've had the same response to Zyprexa-it helps, but the weight gain is a very negative component. The Zeldox (ziprasidone) is supposed to be available to the consumer in March. I have been looking forward to it because it also is supposed to have the strongest antidepressant component of the novel neuroleptics. But it also shows some evidence of cardiac arrythmias. Please let me know if you learn anything about it. Also, how does one qualify for the STEP program?

Hi,
Chocolate is my weakness too. I know about the cardiac arrythmias, but was on Mellaril off and on for years which apparently has similar effects. The site for the STEP-BD program is http://www.edc.gsph.pitt.edu/stepbd/Interested.html, check and see if there is a center close to you and call them. They ask some screening questions and then they interview you. Good luck- Judy

> Hi,
I don't know if you two are still checking this site for answers to zeldox. They decided to change the name to GEODON (ziprasidone hydrochloride). I've been on it for about 2 weeks and it really seems to be helping. My thinking is much less clouded and it does not cause the weight gain that Zyprexa did for me. I've also been on Risperdal too for a time and it made me feel like a zombie. It was way too sedating. But Geodon is like Zyprexa in that it does not sedate you as much and like i said no weight gain. I got samples from my psychiatrist, so you should ask yours if you can get it. I called Pfizer and they said that it was coming out this month (April). So I would definitely recommend it to anyone. The only problem is the elongated qt interval (the time it takes your heart to repolarize and beat again), but this only a problem for people who already have a heart condition. I don't know what your diagnosis is, sounds like chronic depression. Mine is major depression, recurrent with psychotic features. I hope that this information helps. Good luck!

Dear childoftheeighties,

Thanks for posting the information and your experience with Geodon. I have bipolar depression for which I think it might be helpful. I am glad that you have found something that fills your needs so well. If I decide to give it a try, I will post how I respond to it. I find your description to be a source of optimism.

Aside from reducing disordered thinking, in what other ways has Geodon helped with depression? Has it helped with feelings of depression and low energy?

Thanks again.
