Cognitive changes after discontinuing effexor?

Posted by Gersch on April 3, 2001, at 14:32:58

Has anyone experienced cognitive changes immediately after discontinuing effexor, namely difficulties with concentration, attention, vigilence, and memory? Are these difficulties simply a phase or part of the discontinuation process, or must I rely on Effexor for years to come in order to maintain functional thinking skills?

I'm willing to bet that these "cognitive changes" are just a result of the return of anxiety after discontinuation of Effexor. I don't know if I will ever be able to convince you, but anxious people make more mistakes, can't remember simple things, and are irritable, too.

{I was on extremely high doses of Effexor XR that could kill an elephant: 600 mg HS. It didn't do anything for my depression, but it may have removed my anxiety. Anxious symptoms returned after I went cold turkey on Effexor--I never had withdrawal symptoms.}

Sal......
You never had any withdrawal symtoms from quitting xr cold turkey? Especially at such a high dose?
Are you on another AD?
Wow... that gives me some hope... if you read my posts later on down the board you'll seewhy. Thanks for the realization that it doesn't happen to everybody. Much appreciation, Michele

After being on paxil for a week and dicontinuing I experienced some cognitive difficulties, probably not as bad as yours, but very noticeable. I was doing a project a few days after I stopped, and it took me hours longer than it should have, because there were intermittent periods where I was too stupid to process information, and I just felt like staring into space and doing nothign else. I thought I was going crazy.
