Borderline personality disorder... any stories??

Posted by NikkiT2 on April 2, 2001, at 16:36:20

Well, after my stay in hospital last week, I have been told I have BDP...

So, I wondered if anyone had any info etc on it... success stories, anything that has helped etc...

Ta all

Mmm. When, with their limited methods, English pdocs couldn't treat me, they started trying to label me with various personality disorders. I wasn't buying into that.

What do you think about yr dx?

Nikki, a diagnosis is only useful if it helps create a treatment plan. Did they set up a treatment plan for you? Shelli

p.s. did you have to make anything at the hospital?
I know you were worried about that.

Well, after reading up some about it on the internet, I do seem to fit every parameter for it!! The info I read virtually describes me perfectly!!! So heavens knows!!!

Nikki,

I have read about your recent problems and hope that you got some kind of beneficial treatment in the hospital.

As far as BPD I can only say what I have heard in that it seems to be the current "catch-all" daignosis. If you don't fit nicely into one of the DSM-IV categories you go into the BPD group.

That said I have never been concerned with my dx. I still don't know what it is and really don't care but I assume it is major depression. The only thing I concern myself with is the elimination of the symptoms.

No matter what type of mental illness we all have there are symptoms that can be eliminated or reduced. Mine happened to be ruminating thoughts, anhedonia, anergia and meloncholy. I have found that it is best to address these symoptoms rather than concern yourself with a dx.

Just a thought,

Chris

I also have BPD. The best info i found about it on the web is at:

One say that this disorder is decreasing when you get older.... but i think it's decreasing only if you have a proper psychotherapy. If it's not possible, i suggest you to read every book you can find on it. It helps also a lot.

One of my good friends was diagnosed with BPD and she has been improving with the meds and therapy. Good luck to you! :~)
