Recently prescibed Effexor XR

Posted by Marci on March 28, 2001, at 17:13:18

Hi, my case is perhaps a bit unusual. I don't really suffer
from depression so much as I do anxiety, fibromyalgia, and
spastic colon, though during the winter I do get depression some.
I have tried most of the antidepressants
with little success. Most gave me headaches or other
weird side effects, and I already suffer from migraines.
My therapist suggested I try Effexor, but having read
about it on the net, am afraid to try it. Paxil was the only
antidepressant that didn't cause too much side effects, but lately, find that it tends
to *cause* more depression than it helps relieve. I just
got off of it, and am feeling already MUCH better. Before, I was just sleeping
and having a lot of anxiety, afraid to even think, losing myself in a book. Been off work with severe
spastic colon.

Anyway, what can I expect if I try it? I have a phobic
fear of nausea and vomiting, so want to make sure I don't get that!
Doctor prescribed the lowest dose. If I don't like it,
I want to be able to get off of it fast.

I do pretty well not being on anything, as far as depression goes,
but then get somewhat anxious (thoughts won't go away), and the fibromyalgia and spastic
colon kicks in again. I don't know what to do! I have
tried Buspar with little success, and cannot be on any
of the addictive anti anxiety drugs, such as Klonopin.
I got off Klonopin 6 years ago, and never want to go
thru that again! I also read where if you take Imitrex,
it might have a reaction with the Effexor, is this true?

Thanks,

Marci

Why did you come off Klonopin? Wasn't it working?

My mom thought I wasn't myself on it, for what it's
worth. She wanted me off of it while she was
still around to take care of me - she knew it would
be hell because she had gone of of it also.

p.s. I quit taking the Paxil and then was feeling
a little better, I thought, but a week later, still
was feeling kind of weird, numb all over, panicky when going
out, so decided to jump in and try taking the Effexor, nothing to lose, I figure.
Day two, I just feel a little tired, yet kinda jumpy. I still have
a week and a half before I have to go back to work.
