Ruminating thoughts

Posted by Crystal on March 20, 2001, at 14:47:23

I was so glad to read the post about this above. I took paxil (40mg) for 2 years and recently did a switch.
I am now on Prozac. The depression & anxiety is feeling much better but I am having "ruminating thoughts" or OCD, i don't know.
Could it be that the ruminating thoughts will be one of the last things to go away or do I need to add something else. I was on 20 mg for 2 weeks, 40 for 4 weeks and 30 mg buspar, and now 60mg prozac and 30mg buspar for 2 weeks . I have seen some improvements.
Should I add something like zyprexa to get rid of these or am i being an impatient worry wart. Any responses appreciated
thanks
crystal

Crystal,

If the Buspar is not already doing the job after 8 weeks, it's not going to. I have heard it called, by a psychiatrist, "the world's most expensive placebo." It does work for some - but not most.

Zyprexa is very good for ruminating thoughts but is the #1 lard drug. If you can stand to gain 30 pounds, it's a good choice. Just new on the market is Geodon, which to me works as well as Zyprexa at stopping the "noise" in my head and doesn't cause excessive cravings or weight gain.

Good luck,

Karen

thanks Karen,
I will ask my dr. even though he is only my primary care physician he seems knowledgeable. I have an appointment with the psych dr. two weeks from now. My first ever! Hopefully one of the will figure this out. Does the geodon help with anxiety??

For me, yes - but everyone is different. I think it's worth a try, especially if the benzos like Xanax cause sleepiness and fatigue, as they do with me. It definitely helps me feel more "grounded," calmer and less anxious.
