Dear John,
I've been ill and away from the board for a while but I was wondering: On what combination did you finally settle with Dr. Jensen's help? Did you find a med combo that works and what would that be?
Hope you are doing well.

Hi Karen B. I'm sorry you've been ill and not doing as well as you were. I have thought about you: you and Scott (SLS) were about the only ones that answered my posts when I started. I hope things start feeling better for you. Shelli

By the way, I bought Jensen's book and enjoyed it quite a bit. There is no doubt it is a "different" approach--but a lot of it makes sense. The methodology clearly makes sense for short term acting agents like amphetamines. He doesn't pretend to deal with MAOs. His idea to use an antidote for possible drug reactions makes sense to me.

Thanks for the "hello." How are you doing now and what meds are you taking? Last I remember, you were trying Adrafinil. Did that work for you?

Hi Karen. No, nothing seemed to work for me, including adrafinal. Despite "the experts" on the board claim to safety, I had my first ever seratonin reaction to nardil with adrafinil. As Dr. Bob says, "don't believe everything that you read." I went though trials of meds from hell for a whole year, including ampisulpride, until I went back to nardil with lamictal, knowing I would have the lamictal weight gain .And I'm doing better, only not during PMS. I think a lot of what is going on with me is hormonal and have an appointment to see my gyn, early next week. I want to see how far she'll go in testing my hormones, including finding out my progesterone and testosterone levels which can affect PMS.
Thanks for asking. Before you left the board I think you were on ampisulpride and maybe afrafinil. Did that fizzle out? Are you still able to home school your children? shelli

Seeing this post reminded me that Dr. Jensen was on the Today Show this morning (Thursday, March 1). Too bad I didn't remember it until after it was over.
Did anyone see it? If not, you can view the interview on the MSNBC website. The link is http://www.msnbc.com/m/v/video_news.asp. Click on "Understanding Ritalin, Part 2". My only question was that they said he is from Columbia University...I thought he was from California? Is this a different Dr. Peter Jensen?
I understand he will be doing live radio interviews tomorrow (Friday) morning from 7-10 am (not clear what time zone, supposedly from his office...but is that New York or California?). There are supposed to be interview by both CNN radio and AP radio, though at exactly what time they would air was also unclear (sorry!).
ShellBTW - Tomorrow's segment on the Today Show is about ADD/ADHD in adults. It will be on somewhere between 8:30 and 10:00 am.

> KarenHi Karen,
I wish things were going better for you. Hope today is a better dayl.Anyway, to answer your questions, Dr Jensen led me in the direction of antipsychotics and stimulants which I have liked the best. In the antipsychotic category the most effective for me has been either Amisulpride or Zyprexa. In the stimulant category only Adrafinil was any good. As for SSRIs I like good ole Prozac the best, with Zoloft being a second best. He also led me in the direction of cocktails that consist of small doses of several meds.
Right now I am taking 300mg Adrafinil in the morning, 5mg Zyprexa in the evening, with an SSRI in the background. I would have to say that for anyone having difficulty with meds, I like the idea of doing rapidfire trials of them just to discover a lucky one to continue longterm. There always is a lucky one, and it always makes itself obvious. Just have to throw the dice to find it. No need to do long trials for this part of it. That's probably the best thing that helped me that I learned from Dr Jensen.
John
