struggling

Posted by jrw on January 8, 2001, at 12:29:56

right now, i'm barely making it through the days.
weekdays and weekends are pretty much equally bad. can
anybody suggest what has helped them get through the
worst dark days? i am in therapy each week, and taking
wellbutrin and just started prozac, but i feel like i'm
sinking, and can't imagine how i'll ever be able to get
back, let alone enjoy anything.

thanks a lot,

I am not a doctor, so I can't tell you how to cure your ailments, but I can tell you that there are millions of people who suffer and feel the same way you are feeling now...You are not alone...know that there are complete strangers out there who can relate and empathize...you will get through this...you are stronger than you know...keep your heart and mind set on that even though you may not be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel...your ears can let you hear that there are others beyond the dark who have reached the lighted side, who are back enjoying life again....hear their calls and focus on hope...

Have you talked to your doctor/therapist about this? Is it a matter of needing a change in med. dose? Or of med.? Do you need more structured treatment to get you through this period of time?

thanks for the responses.

he upped the dose of wellbutrin, and added prozac
in an attempt to help, but i just feel terrible.
what did you mean by structured treatment to get
through this time?

I meant that if you are in such distress that you might be unsafe or are not functioning adequately, maybe more structure and support could help, like: seeing the therapist more frequently, or enrolling in a day treatment program, etc.

Wellbutrin made me irritable and prozac didn't help me at all. You might be in need of something a little stronger. I was taking depakote and seroquel for depression/anxiety and it pretty much wiped it out. My only complaint was "emotional flattening"...

This is probably not the best thing to start doing but on very bad days when the pain is unbarable I take a small amount of xanax or clonazepam. It really helps although this could be a form of self medicating.
