Anyone taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen?

Posted by anita on December 1, 2000, at 22:47:39

Hi,

My dermatologist suggested I take birth control pills (Ortho Tri-Cyclen) for my adult acne. Nothing else has worked, so I'm considering it. I have depression, and would like to know if anyone experienced a worsening of their depression on this particular pill.

Thanks!

Hi Anita! I gained a "little" weight on Ortho... only 5-7 lbs, which is generally normal with any BCP. Other than that, they were good pills.
Good Luck

No problems by me, although I do still get the night-before-starting weepiness, etc..

Best,

Hi, Anita! Haven't talked to you in a while.

Yes, I took Ortho-Tricyclen briefly (for less than a month) and noticed a definite relapse into depression (I was taking Parnate at the time). I can't be positive that the OT was the cause of the relapse, but it seems very likely. I stopped taking the Pill and things seemed to improve.

I hope your holidays have been going okay.

Hi Elizabeth,

I thought you had disappeared from this board ... glad to "see" you again. How have you been? Are you on some good meds now? I'm taking Lamictal, Zoloft, and Risperdal, which seem to be working relatively well.

Hi, Anita and Scott (and anybody else who still remembers me).

Anita: I increased my Parnate to 10mg 6 times a day and developed the apathy syndrome that some people have described in association with SSRIs. I decided to try something different, so now I'm on Remeron; I've also started taking Buprenex again and am finding it as helpful as ever, except for the side effects (nasty) and the short duration of action (roller-coaster). I'm hoping the Remeron will kick in (it's been about 3 weeks) and will work well enough that I won't need to keep taking Buprenex. If not, I will probably return to Parnate and try to switch to a longer-acting opioid.
