manerix (moclobemide)

Posted by andrew on December 12, 2000, at 11:32:37

I am currently taking manerix 600mg. It is absolutely wonderfull. its the eighth one I've tried:

WHY WILL THE F.D.A. NOT APPROVE IT FOR USE IN THE UNITED STATES? Is it because of abuse potential?

Andrew - Manerix (moclobemide) has no abuse potential. I am not sure why it has not been approved in the U.S. It probably has something to do with the drug company not trying hard enough to get it released (ie. the potential market share is not worth the money needed to prove efficacy and safety in clinical trials).

Who knows what the government approvers are thinking. It is like Luvox (fluvoxamine), an SSRI which is used for both depression and OCD in Canada, but is only approved as an anti-OCD drug in the U.S.

Hope this helps - Cam

A few years ago, Roche was engaged in clinical trials of moclobemide in the United States for the indication of social phobia, and not depression. The project was abandoned.

I believe someone was using this combo together some time ago. If so, I'm wondering how it went for them and how they combined them?

How much manerix are you taking andrew?

You already noted the amount you take (looking back)... how long did you take to build up to 600 and what's it helping you with? What else have you tried previously which wasn't as helpful?

I have tried zoloft, paxil (both of these worked but wiped out my libido), serzone, effexor (just made me sweat),prozac, and wellbutrin; many of these did nothing, there was no difference.

I started moclobemide @ 300mg t.i.d. and got a partial response after about 2 weeks, I asked my doctor for a dose increase and he immidiately upped it to 600mg t.i.d. It works great I think?!(today I feel really terrible like a relapse has happened or something, maybe its just a down day.)
