Support This Board - Isn't It Worth It?

-Like this board? Help support it by contributing the cost of just one pdoc visit.

-As was said on a previous thread, "this board saves lives", (maybe even your own).

-This board is non-profit and run by a faculty member at the University of Chicago. All checks go to the University, not to an individual.

-Go to the top of Psycho-Babble and click on "support" for directions on how to contribute.

Support, amazon.com, an idea - Dr. Bob

If I'm remembering this correctly, buying a book through the links to amazon.com on Dr. Bob's "Read!" page contributes a percentage of the purchase, right? (I'm sure this is a meager percentage, but on the other hand, at least it is a contribution.)

Amazon.com now has a "Friends & Favorites" section. All you need is a username and password to enter, which you have if you've ever bought anything from the site. This section includes "Purchase Circles," which are designed so that you can see the most popular books purchased by others in your circle. I don't know if this would be possible, but maybe Dr. Bob could create a "Psycho-Babble" purchase circle, and purchases made by members of the circle could possibly send the same contribution to Dr. Bob that his amazon.com links do? I don't know if amazon.com would do this, but it seems feasible.

It could also serve a dual purpose, obviously, since we're always looking for book recommendations, etc. from each other around here.

I agree, since a lot of work goes into maintaining this site, which benefits us all through mutual support. I'm sure whatever you can donate will be appreciated and put to good use.

Thanks for the idea!

But I don't think it would work. At least not the way they're set up now. They determine their Purchase Circles automatically, based on either your location or your domain name. You all don't have a location or domain name in common, so there's no way for them to "credit" your purchases to the same Purchase Cirle. But thanks for thinking of me. :-)

Actually they do it on suggestion also, but I didn't notice that it's only for groups of 200 people or more. :)

Sorry, just one of those spur-of-the-moment ideas. :)
