Anita - Risperdal

Anita,
I see you recently started Risperdal. I was just curious. Could you help me with a couple questions?

What dose did you start with?
What time of day you take it?
Is it good for sleep?
What side effects have you noticed? (dry mouth, tiredness, nervousness, appetite, etc)

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

I'm taking .25mg twice a day (morning & bedtime) for now, probably going up to at least 1 mg/day. It seems to be working really well, within 2 days. I feel much more motivated, awake, and interested in life. I had a similar response to amisulpride (although risperidone feels less stimulating generally speaking), but after a month I got very irritable, so only time will tell with risperidone.

I wouldn't say it's good for sleep for me -- seems to cause a little insomnia, but I often have insomnia so it's hard to tell. Slight dry mouth, slight increase in appetite, rapid heartbeat. What I like the most is that it makes me feel awake but not at all agitated or anxious.

Are you thinking of trying it?
