Celexa - Loss of effectiveness?

Posted by sem on October 28, 2000, at 13:25:17

I have been on Celexa 40 mgs per day for almost 4 months now. It has been a wonder drug for me, I have felt normal for the first time in about 7 years. In the last week, I have felt depression returning, whereas I didn't have it AT ALL in the last four months. Has anyone had this experience? I don't know if I just "happen" to be going through a low period, or if it is losing its effectiveness. The doctor started me on Wellbutrin 100 mg SR twice daily a few days ago, but it hasn't started working yet. I miss my Celexa normalacy feeling.

There's some discussion of this in a thread I started up above. You can check there.

Did you discuss with your P-doc adding a booster instead of just taking you off the celexa? Celexa was my wonder drug too for 14 months. I just now had to switch to effexor xr. My doc and I tried a myriad of other options before taking me off a medication that worked so well.
best of luck!

This board has been such a life saver because it hits home! I, too, have been on about 40 mg of Celexa for 6 months and had a heavy depression return over the last month. We had dropped it to 30 due to sexual dysfunction so I'm back up to 40 top see h ow that does, but it was really frustrating to have that old feeling back. My Dr. said that Depression can still break through at times, but offered no clinical explanation. I'm going to check out Rebecca's thread above. Good luck.
