A warning to parents of teenagers

Posted by S. Howard on October 28, 2000, at 17:34:07

The night before last, my son's two best friends, Terry and Pat (not their real names), took a bottle of ativan prescribed for Terry's mother. They split the pills between them and went to a party, where they drank for several hours before getting a ride home. Sometime during the night, Pat died from aspiration(drowning in vomit). My son is wild with grief and Terry is even worse. I've never seen anything as heart-breaking as watching these two young men, who normally act so cool and tough and macho like 18-year-olds will do, holding each other and sobbing inconsolably.

If you have teenagers in the house, you might want to hide or lock up your drugs.

How awful. Good advice to keep meds locked up. Even if you trust your own kids, you never know if one of their freinds might be over and make an impulsive decision that could lead to something like this.
