clomipramine for SOC.ANX., DEP., OCD

Posted by Andre Allard on July 19, 2000, at 18:50:33

I am currently in the hospital because my condition worsened.

I have taken effexor (worked but then stopped), celexa, zoloft, serzone, and manerix without much success. The pdoc has now started me on clomipramine (tofranil) for social anxietyl, depression and ocd. The reason my pdoc has me on this AD, I believe, is because he and his team do not know what else to do.

What do you guys thing of clomipramine and if it does not work what the HELL am I going to do - besides blowing my head into a million peices?

Andre, I have OCD, depression, and social anxiety/phobia. I've tried Prozac, Luvox, Zoloft, and now Effexor-XR. If Anafranil does not work for you there are a number of options you can discuss with your pdoc, including other meds (e.g., Luvox, plus they develop them all the time) and augmentation meds. See the article on medication for adults by Michael Jenike, MD, at the OCD Foundation site: www.ocfoundation.org. He discusses the options and gives several excellent suggestions. Also, you might want to join the OCD-L@VM.MARIST.EDU list (just put "subscribe" in the message part). It is a daily newsletter, where people write about OCD, their treatment attempts, including meds, and give suggestions; Dr. Jenike, Dr. Claiborn, and other consultants are available to answer specific questions. You didn't mention if you are getting cognitive behavior therapy; there are a number of great self-help books at the OCF site, as well as an "Ask the Experts" board where they will give suggestions re: refractory depression and OCD. Probably the most important thing to do is, don't give up! Been there, done that, many times. Anafranil has helped many people, so give it a good try. Let me know if I can help with suggestions since I've been fighting the same thing for years (plus BDD and ADD!). Hugs!
