Seroquel or Zyprexa??

Posted by Lynne on July 19, 2000, at 15:44:33

I am trying to understand what these drugs do? I know they are antipsychotics. But, do they help with depression and rumination? I tried Zyprexa first and I only stayed with it for about a week. I changed to the Seroquel and at least I don't want to eat everything in site. Do these drugs have a accumulative effect and take a few weeks to build up in your system?

i've been on 25 mg/seroquel p.m. for about two months and i have noticed SUBSTANTIAL improvement re: lessening of negative ruminations/mental noise. also, there seems to be no weight-gain problem-impressive since the HORRID weather here in MIZZERY has kept me off the bike and inside indulging in "rapid cooling product" also known as that really cheap sherbet you get from the grocery sto' for like $1.89/gallon.
i take it w/300 mg serzone p.m. so i can't speak to what effects the seroquel alone has on depression. i can attest to the fact that seroquel alone was NOT enough to lower the mental noise/negatiove ruminations level into the acceptable range for me. how much/when are you dosing? is it helping you sleep?

After a year I am still satisfied with my reactions to Zyprexa. The obsessive/obtrusive thoughts are gone and my mind is a lot less "noisy."

I noticed the difference in less than a week and if I change my dose I also notice the difference in a few days.

>Paul,
I have worked my way up to 25mgs. I love it because it does help me sleep. I do wake up with a slight headache every morning and hope this will go away. I also take Ritalin in the daytime and until I added the Seroquel I didn't have as good as response to the Ritalin as I do now.Somehow they must work together. My doc wants me to work up to 50mgs of Seroquel. Have you tried Zyprexa? I liked it but, the weight thing bothered me. I don't notice a increase with appetite with Seroquel.I think seroquel is helping me also with ruminated thoughts. What flavor of sherbet do you like?It is so hot where I live also!!!!!
