James here....

ID's on the board are assoc with a valid e-mail address, makes it ez'er to track and deal with problems.

Thx stjames - you said it simply clearly (nm)

Question for Dr. Bob,

How will you deal with web-based email addresses?

James-
Anyone can have umteen addresses. We also post
from different locations & use different ISPs.
We can easily post thru proxies. A 'valid' address
doesn't mean much. I registered with an AOL address
but I'm posting from a different address thru a
different ISP.

James.....

Yes, yes yes. But this is the de facto standard on the internet for signing onto list servs and other such lists, BB, ect.

I might mention that as a sys admin, even if you try the ploys you mentioned, I can always find out who did what and what IP they came from while doing it.

Perhaps there is a better answer..... Dr. Bob wants it that way !

james-

Your last answer is probably the best one. Obviously
I had no qualms about it because here I am, registered
and all! All I'm saying is that it is not a panacea
for discouraging or eliminating abuse.

Question re: proxies, chained proxies, etc

Up until about a month or so ago,I thought using
the above would mask the originating ISP, but
then I found a site that nailed me _almost_ every
time I tested it using different proxies & chains.

Is this capability relatively new?

What about the sites that allow you to email or
post to newsgroups annonymously? Or the remailers?

They claim the originating ISP address is wiped clean.
Is it?

Have you played around with some of the PGPs?

Thanks

stuff, email me directly

Well, it does mean something. Plus, one step at a time. If another step's necessary, I guess it would be credit card numbers?

Why?

It's unfortunate, but I realize that each new hoop to jump through turns some people off. It's a trade-off. I'd rather have it be more supportive here than have more people here. Of course, I wouldn't want to turn *too many* people off...

But another concern of mine has in fact been how busy it's been here at times. Could there at some point be too much of a good thing?

I've wondered about starting a second board. But I'm not sure how to differentiate it from this one. It could be specialized in some way, for example, focused on particular diagnoses or medications. Or on a specific age group, like children.

Or the walls could just be a different color, and another general discussion might develop, but then there might be a lot of double-posting.

Hmm, what about limiting it to those who've been here the longest -- or posted the most???

Just thinking out loud...

Bob

Dr. Bob,

Glad to see the registration system. Thanks once more for all your hard work and keeping on top of things!

Any new board is problematic in that there is always some overlap of topics. A new board seems to be an eventual necessity thouogh. Here are some suggestions for topics for a new board:
-anxiety and sleeplessness
-bipolar/mood stabilizers
-treatment resistant depression
-Anergic depression/ Stimulant and arousal agents
-Emotional support group for depression
-Antidepressant effects/side effects
-Underestanding depression: the issues surrounding this disorder

One more thing, I'm another person who really misses an updated version of Tips. Listening in on the exchanges between psychiatrists was so informative. Is there anything equivalent to this somewhere else on the web?

Agree on Andrew on above. But I think it would be a shame to split the board. I think its good that medication flows into philosophy into coping, etc. What has impressed me is how bright everyone is on this board vs other boards I've seen. Perhaps you could give an IQ test as a criteria to get on this board. (Just kidding) shellie

It has gotten really busy, making it hard to keep up with the reading.

I don't know how it would be best to "split". No matter what, it would feel somewhat arbitrary to some people.

One thought is to have one board focus mainly on medication related issues, and the other on more psychosocial issues.

Thank you both so much for reaching out to me, it is so incredibly wonderful to feel the warmth of your thoughts and the friendship of your words. I cannot accurately express my sincere gratitude for you both and for this place called Psycho-Babble and all its fathomless personalities!

Thank YOU!!!

I agree. I wasn't thinking about *excluding* the old-timers from this board, just letting them have a new board all to themselves...

> One more thought. Do you think that too much Psycho-Babble can be counterproductive?

That comes up from time to time, whether this can get "addictive". Maybe anything that really affects people has that potential?

You know, I've seen another message board that does have that feature. The thing is, some people express themselves through their spelling. :-)

Dear Dr. Bob,
How long would you have to have been here to be on the oldie's board? What if you used to post a lot, but haven't been posting much lately? What if I got picked for the board that I didn't want to use? What if there are certain people I would like to be on the same board with?
It's stressing me out. I just like things the way they are :)

Cass
