Dear Cam,

I don't know if anyone has yet asked you this question:

What do you think of Manerix / moclobemide?

Please exercise only minimal tact. :-)

Scott - Manerix is one of those meds that come down the pipeline, everyone tries them, and they don't work. You say this at a presentation and 3 or 4 hands shoot up in disagreement. There seems to be a subset of people with depression that Manerix works for. One of my patients with psychotic depression, who was on a whack of traditional antipsychotics and maximum doses of various antidepressants and was still having delusions and was still so severely depressed (to the point of catatonia, at times) that he was one of those 'revolving door at the hospital' patients.

About 3 or 4 years ago he was tried on Manerix. As they upped his Manerix dose, they decreased his antipsychotic load and within 3 months he was taking 600mg of Manerix twice daily, with no antipsychotics. He got a full time job and has been working ever since. The only change in meds since this time is that now he takes 0.5mg of Risperdal at bedtime to help him sleep.

Does Manerix work? For him it did. Also he adheres to no food restrictions at all (He loves pickled herring).

What else can I say, except never say something doesn't work; not even if it is Seroquel (oops!)

My 2¢...er, pocket lint - Cam

>Hey Scott: I take Manerix and its been a miracle drug for me. i takes care of the panic attacks well but I supplement with clonazepam and it has all but erradicated the depression so I guess I'm in Cam's tiny percentile. It all depends on your condition, i guess. Love --Tina
