z,

I think a heart rate of 100 is pretty high, I believe the norm is 68 to 78bpm (for most people), unless you've been exercising. You certainly could be having a reaction to one of your meds, but I'm not a doc so I don't know for sure. Maybe someone else can give you some info on the 2 drugs. If it were me and the heart rate stays consistent, I'd drop in at the local ER to be checked out if for no other reason than piece of mind. And definitely call your doc!

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Z, I agree with Greg that you should talk to a doctor if that rate is new for you. My heart rate has always been about l00, with or without AD's. A lot of things can raise your pulse rate (including certain meds and anxiety). So check it out for your own peace of mind.

elevated HR can be for several reasons. In this context 2 main ones are med side effects & inadequate tr of anxiety.

It is not an emergency. A hr of 100 is not medically dangerous.

Do you have any other symptoms ? Usually the elevated HR will increase as stress levels increase. Other sx such as nervousness, tremour, sweating, etc, will also increase as th HR goes up.

Either way your meds need to be changed /adjusted.

danf, I've always had an elevated HR since I was a kid, so I don't think it's from AD's. But I agree that z should check out what's going on with his HR of l00.

danf,

I was at an Urgent Care facility over the weekend, and the woman in the bed next to mine had come in to be seen for an elevated HR. It was 105. The doc had her transferred to a local hospital for overnight observation. He said there was a definite danger factor. While 100 may not be dangerous to someone like Cindy (Good morning dear, how are you feeling?) who normally has a high heart rate anyway, it certainly can be for someone whos HR is normally lower. My HR is usually about 70bpm and if mine was 100, I'd want to know why.

An increased heart rate (tachycardia) is most definitely
a well known side effect of tricyclic ADs, and Elavil is
one of the worst offenders. When I have taken Elavil over
the years, my pulse rate also has gone over 100.

This has always upset me, but apparently it is not
particularly dangerous if you have no known heart problems
and are not elderly. Some doctors have offered me meds
like Inderal to slow the heart rate, but I never wanted
to go that route. No doctor ever thought the high pulse
rate was a source for great concern.

I would say that your pulse rate is nothing to worry about
if you have a healthy heart and are not planning to be on
Elavil permanently.

I have gone thru this too

I get sustained elevated HR, BP & anxiety sx. They are crippling at times.

The only thing whih made a real diff was getting on the right meds.

It is imposssible to live, if one has to go in a dark room & meditate to control this crap that we don't want. We lay there fighting this & the world passes us by.

No body else cares what we are going thru, they just see that we did't want to join in the fun.
