And the winner is.......(new booster med for me)

Posted by shellie on June 12, 2000, at 22:55:15

FYI (since much of my list was gathered from information on this board). First off, my pdoc complimented me on my research, and I gave her copies of all my info. From my list (ritalin, adderal, buprenorphine, adramil, provigil or naltrexone), she choose naltrexone for me to add to nardil. She's had very good success with it, and given that hydrocodone has an antidepressant effect for me, she felt it was the best choice. Her feeling was that ritalin and adderal would make me too anxious or shakey. She thinks I can handle starting at 25mg--even though I kept saying, "but the folks on dr. bob's board split their pills into tiny tiny micropieces to start!" She'd like to get me up to 50mg. I may chicken out and start at 12 1/2 mg. My diagnois is major depression (with an added dissociative disorder). I'll keep you updated if anyone's interested. shellie

Shellie,

Cool choice. I hope you don't mind if I'm in your corner cheering for Naltrexone to work!

When I tried Naltrexone I found that even 12.5mg was way too hefty at first. But I recall someone else who started at 50mg no prob. I guess we all have different sensitivities.

I'm one of the ones who had to start with microchunks. That worked very well. I progressed from perhaps 3mg up to 50mg in about a week. And after all was said and done, ALL the initial side effects (primarily a flu-like achy nauseated feeling) totally disappeared. Totally. Unfortunately I'm also one of the ones that didn't find Naltrexone to be of much benefit.

I'm really hoping you get good results with it. Keep us posted as to how it's going.
JohnL

I started taking Naltrexone at 50mg/day but I am also very med resistant. I rarely get side effects although I have sometimes in the past.

I started it because of alcoholism but it did have AD effects for me.

Hope it all works out for you.

Chris

I am very happy that you were able to communicate with your pdoc so well, and that she respected your research and input. I think you made a wise decision to go back to her even though you'll be paying from your own pocket. I haven't been very active here at babble-land lately, though I've been visiting and lurking for quite some time (I still remember Toby) and would sincerely appreciate any attempt to keep us updated on your progress and journey.

My best wishes and gratitude go out to you Shellie. Take Care!
