Mirapex(pramipexole)for moodsexual difficulties?

Posted by JonB. on March 24, 2000, at 23:09:00

Anyone out there taken Mirapex/pramipexole for any
psychiatric condition? Results? What about as an
addition to help with SSRRI sexual dysfunction?

Thanks.

JonB.

Jon,

I’m taking Mirapex now. It has helped with my fatigue and depression. I can’t say how much it has helped because I have never used it by itself, only as an add-on. I feel well now though. I have dysthymia along with something that resembles Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

It is hard to say what depressive conditions Mirapex might help with. It has been studied very little for depression. It is my impression however that it may be effective in treating a cluster of symptoms that are often indicative of faulty or suboptimal D2-D3 dopamine receptor neurotransmission. This cluster of symptoms includes fatigue, apathy, anhedonia, emotional detachment, and problems with concentration and memory. Mirapex also reduces anxiety.

I’m sorry, but I’ve never heard of Mirapex being used for SSRI sexual dysfunction. Some speculate that such dysfunction is the result of dopamine depletion. That maybe explains why dopamine enhancers like amantadine, bromocriptine and various stimulants have been effective in treating SSRI sexual dysfunction. Mirapex, being a dopamine agonist, conceivably could be also effective for such dysfunction.
