Disclaimer on Cam W's Advise

Posted by Cam W. on March 17, 2000, at 21:01:11

I know I answer a lot of questions and I hope I can helps some people, but my advise is just a suggestion and my opinion. Do not take anything I say a gospel. Always check another source, preferably your doctor. I do not prescribe and I do not want to hinder any doctor's therapy. Please, any doctors (esp. Dr.Bob) or other Babblers tell me if I step over the line. Sometimes I do not realize the effects that my opinions have on others. I really like helping out where I can, but sometimes I forget that I am ONLY a pharmacist. I am not trained to diagnose or counsel. Thank you for your time. Sincerely - Cam W.

Yes Cam I understand what you are saying. I do not take this as gospel, but it helps to know some tips on the meds to better tolerate or understand what is going on. As always listen to the doctor first. Thanks Gloria

"Only a pharmacist"?

Cam, you're a professional in your own right, and one who is developing considerable expertise in the issues the patients here (and from what I remember, that includes you, too) desperately need experts on. But don't disparage your own expertise simply because you don't have an MD (=Me Doctor) embroidered after your name on your labcoat.

Thanks for the disclaimer, all the same. I think the old fogeys have no problem with seeing your advice for what it is -- YMMV ... you mileage may vary. Babbleland watchwords. But some of the newbies MAY not be hooked into this yet.

cheers,
bob

[ps ... I know, you're Canadian ... okay, YKMV -- your kilometerage may vary ....]

Cam, I understand the need for a disclaimer, but want you to know that, in my experience, there are a heck of a lot of pharmacists who know a heck of a lot more about medications then a heck of a lot of Doctors! We are all VERY appreciative of your informative posts. CarolAnn

I think your posts are more valuable than the average docs because you've been there and understand what it feels like. From my experience some docs just don't comprehend what you're going through. Jan

To all - Thank you for the vote of confidence. Recently at work, a couple of my colleagues have stated concerns on my giving my opinions and advice over the internet. They say that I am setting myself up for a lawsuit. I say that if someone wants to aquire my debts, more power to them. I will keep posting on areas that I know about, but may be adding more disclaimers than I have in the past (not really believing that they will help against a determined lawyer, anyway). I have learned more in the short time I have been following these threads than I ever could have in years of staying in my little part of the world (so much in fact, that I am now behind in my knowledge). Thank you to everyone, from the bottom of my heart; you are all wonderful people. Your sometimes humble pharmacist - Cam W.

Cam(Is this short for Cameron?),
I highly value your input. I appreciate your disclaimer. Keep bringing us the professional info. Don't worry about how we take it. Only a pharmacist...You're not a doctor, but boy do we wish our doctors were more like you, compassionate, down to earth, and most of all willing to take the time and effort to understand and explain meds to those that really need them to emotionally get through, no, not just get through, but to start enjoying life. Bless you.

Tell them they should pop in and lurk around for a while -- they may learn something, too. Amazing what you can learn when you shut up and listen.

Not that I pay attention to my own advice, tho...

Cam-

By all means, come up w/some standard disclaimer if need be, and put it at the beg or end of each of your posts... It's obviously kind of a pain in the ass for you to do, and for us to read... But if it'll give you any margin of protection from some "real nut" as opposed to us, it's worth it.

Btw, bob has a good point... tell them you sign yourself as "the farmicist" or whatever, (for annonimity at work) and tell them to check this place out.

They may still be hesistant to post advice themselves, but I bet they'd find it interesting hear how things work in reality, as opposed to how they work in a text book. Don't mean to be too condescending (sp?)...

I just appreciate you taking the time to offer us some of your insights and experience/knowledge... Unfortunately, I can actually understand their apprehension.

Bottom line from me is that your input is definitely valued and appreciated.
