Can anyone give a qualified opinion as to whether or not anti-depressants such as Serzone will show on employment drug screenings? I can't imagine being offered a worthwhile job if you disclose that you take medications of that sort-in spite of the fact that they can arguably make you a better worker.

I'd imagine they don't test for ADs in job drug-screenings. The case against mental health bias is ostensibly enough of a threat to devalue AD screening (if it's possible at all).
BTW, how are you feeling on Serzone?carter

I think you could call the state and ask. Let's see would it be the secy of state, or atty general? Or maybe under labor, etc. It might be worth a try.

I worked in H/R for years at a large corp. They didn't screen for psych meds. They screen for alcohol - at a certain level - marijuana, barbiturates, speed (any kind), cocaine. I would definitely NOT disclose personal medical information. Prospective employers aren't even allowed to ask your age, much less about your health. I was screened while on Prozac, never showed up. However, I was taking Donnatal for IBS, and that did show up as a Barbiturate. So if you are taking a medication for medical purposes that might show up like that, you may want to consider disclosure. They ask you to list all the meds you are taking before they do the peepee test. Valium and some drugs like that might show up. Also, it depends on the type of job you would be hired to do. Working heavy machinery, sitting in an office, etc. They company is looking out for their liability. Also, if it's a quick return test, say overnight - chances are they aren't screeing for much except alcohol, speed, downers, marijuana, and cocaine. Serzone won't show up. Just like they can't look for any other stuff, i.e., HIV, hepatitis, whatever. It's like Noa says about the ADA thing. They would be wide open for a lawsuit. I personally feel that when it comes to employers - the less personal information given the better. Good Luck!

Certain jobs do call for complete disclosure, if a med might impair ability to safely operate vehicles, etc. There was just a story about a train driver who crashed the train, and was fired. He *said* he had taken a prescription that he hadn't disclosed. This alone is grounds for termination. But, as it turns out, he tested positive for cocaine.

They just test for the drugs of abuse.....then again since you are under doc's orfers to take this med it does not matter as you are protected by law, though it is a can of worms.

My drug screen was only for drugs of abuse. I was having a root canal the same day as my screening. My screen turned up the pain med, as an opiod. They asked about it. I said I had been having a root canal. I got the job. I have wondered if they called the Dentist to check out my (true) story.
