What can I expect from Serzone?

Posted by Al on February 1, 2000, at 19:46:26

I have had an uphill battle with generalized anxiety disorder, panic attacks, and depression. My PDoc put me on Celexa for the depression, and it nullified the problem. We tried BuSpar and Inderal for the anxiety, both of which didn't work, so we switched to Neurontin. The Neurontin works great, but I am still having bouts with anxiety and anger. My PDoc is now wanting to try Serzone instead of Celexa, since she feels the Celexa may be contributing to my anxiety. Celexa was a very uplifting medication.

My question is -- What can I expect from Serzone? Is it "uplifting" or will it calm me down better?

***Serzone supposedly has a very good trackrecord for anxiety. For me, however, it was even less effective in this respect than Effexor. But, I suppose, everyone responds to these meds differently.

I don't know the effects of Serzone on anxiety. I take it as an adjunct to Effexor. For me, it is somewhat sedating, which is why I take it,that is, to counter the activating effects of effexor. I take it at night only.

What I do know that I feel is important for you to know, is that INITIALLY, I felt agitated and very emotional when I started the Serzone. Others here have reported a similar INITIAL repsonse, including agitation and rage. These seem to pass after a few weeks. Also, initially, I felt a bit uncoordinated and groggy. But that faded, too.

Al, I agree with Noa...the initial effects were strange for me (dizziness, easy irritability and easy anger; these diminished after a couple of weeks). Then I noticed a large decrease in social anxiety and improved mood, as well as much improved sleep. I'd still be taking Serzone I think if I helped with OCD!--Cindy W

Serzone made me very anxious and dizzy, with no benefits at all. One man's experience though...
