Rem problem

Posted by Dawn on December 9, 1999, at 16:14:43

A strange event happened to me 2 years ago. As a result of this experience I can no longer visulize pictures etc. I notice this most when I shut my eyes to go to sleep. At the same time this experience took place one of my ears popped and has been ringing since. Before this experience I could dream {picture things} and never had a problem with my ears. I believe these problems are connected because they happened at the same time. These problems have been non-stop since they started. Have you heard of this before? I've been to a few doctors and they have no idea what the cause is or what I have. I getting my doctor to make me an appointment at the sleep clinic. I don't do drugs or drink and I'm not on any meds. Please anyone email me back if you have any information. Thanks Dawn

Could you describe (in as much detail as you are comfortable with) what the event was that
coincided with the beginning of these symptoms? I'll probably have no idea one way or the
other, but perhaps someone else could provide some insight...

Thanks for writing back. I have sleep problems and this is what I believe caused it. I was in bed and everything went black followed by my ears popping and ringing. I can't tell you to much because my memory is bad because of lack of sleep. I've had sleep problems since I was about 16 or 17. At the time this experience happened I was getting by on 1 or 2 hours of sleep a night. I am very concerned because rem depravation is very serious. It's well known we need this to function on a normal level. I welcome any input on this subject. Thanks DAWN

Dawn,

I haven't a clue what the problem is, but it sounds like you experienced some sort of accute adverse neurological
event and the symptoms you suffer now are in whole or in part sequelae.

Have you been to see a sleep specialist, or better still, a neurologist and described what happened to you?
