Help!Bruce,Phil, anyone in S. Calif, anyone with ex

Posted by Lurker on November 1, 1999, at 18:28:05

I need any info ASAP on ordering meds from foreign
suppliers or even going into Mexico. My very kind
GP, who was willing to treat my depression with codeine
(only stuff that helped for almost 10yrs) died suddenly (stroke). The guy
who took over gave me a small amt. but said he would not write for
anymore. I cannot afford going on the doctor merry-go-round to find
someone else. My sister-inlaw lives in S.Calif and said she would go into
Mexico once but needs exact info on where. But if i can order this by mail
it would be very helpful but I don't have any idea on doing this. I've
read that those sites that offer phone #'s ,etc are mostly bogus.
Does anyone on this list have any info and any ideas?
I've been rationing very carefully the last prescription but the bottom
will show soon. Thanks for ANY help!!!!! You can email me privately
if that is better: jambony@email.com

Go to a psychiatrist. It is well documented that
some people respond to opiates and not much else.
A good psychiatrist should be aware of this and
at a minimum, understand the danger and silliness
of you going "cold turkey" and trying to get drugs
from mexico which are available here.

Lurker -

I definitely do NOT recommend ordering narcotics from overseas. Although the overseas firm may send them to you, the chances of having your shipment intercepted by the FDA is too great. They would simply confiscate the shipment and you'd have no recourse (unless you were able to produce a prescription - which you can't).

Worse, the law might let the shipment arrive at your doorstep, and then when you pick it up they'd simply arrest you.

The FDA allows the importation of small quantities of *some* drugs for personal use. Antidepressants and smart drugs are OK with them. Narcotics, anabolic steroids, and stimulants aren't.

You are better off seeking a knowledgeable psychiatrist who has treated patients like you....

James here....

I would request all you recorts from your ex doc.
You might have to request from his estate. With these in hand you can make a better case for continuing this treatment. You may have to interview some pdoc's to find one that will, but
mailing or getting controled substances from mexico or oversea's will land you in jail. If you get caught it will not matter what your ex-doc did.

See if your new doc will prescribe BUPRENORPHINE (BUPRENEX)

Get yourself some CLONIDINE now, just in case you don't make it.

If all else fails...being codeine is an OPIATE, you can get on any METHADONE
program.
It usually takes a couple hours to go thru the admitting process. Just make an appoint.

Find yourself a new Physician
go to:
http://www.asam.org/ (American Society of Addiction Medicine)
click: AMA Physician Select
Click: Search by name or medical specialty
Hit the I accept
click: Medical Specialty
click: search from an expanded list of medical specialties

Jesus! doesn't eating codeine kill your stomach! ?

May I ask how you got your doc to prescribe an opiate for depression?
I'm looking for that kind of doc myself. I'm a former Methadone client/heroin user.
Same as you opiates are the only thing that has "cured" my depression.
Specifically Methadone! miracle drug for me

I feel for.... ain't nothing scarier than anticipating opiate withdrawals.

Diane

Thanks to Everyone

I appreciate everyone who has taken their time to
help me. I just wish through the magic of cyberspace
your messages could rematerialize as pmeds!

For Sean/Bruce/stjames: Thanks for giving me the low-
down on procuring this stuff outside the US. I DID
NOT know it was illegal to have it shipped, which is
confusing. Spend an hour in Tiajuana and legally bring back 3 months worth of apparently most any
drug,(especially sig. for seniors having no drug coverage).
But live too far away and watch out! Discrimination, I say!

For Diane: Thanks for your suggestions. I plan on seeing the new guy
and plead my case one last time; at least he may refer me to someone
and give me a good ref (how weird does that sound?!) based on my records.
As for how I was prescribed the stuff, not at first and other things tried,
but this killed not only the depression but the wretched headaches I
used to (uh oh) get. And I never had to increase the dose or ask for
stronger meds like percocett. Plus, I saw this guy for at least 10 yrs., so
it wasn't like I just walked in one day and said "gimmie". As for the stomach thing, I only took 1/2 tab 2-3x/day and always with food; even so
sometimes Maalox and I became good friends.

The methadone thing would be a last resort, if the alternatives
tank,who knows?
Buprenex I know nothing about so I'll have to see.
Good luck with your search, too, Diane.
