Any Serzone horror stories?

Posted by Kel on September 10, 1999, at 20:39:51

I'm on AD #6 and I am hopeful but also curious if there are any bad experiences with side affects, withdrawals, ect... ESPECIALLY, weight gain, sexual dysfunction and all those other little goodies that are not on the list of "side affects" Thanks for taking the time to respond. -Kel

Serzone is working for me, after 5 weeks I am definitely feeling some 'Good' effects.
The first week was a rought ride. Second, too, although not as bad. I cannot say that I felt worse than before taking it, but I definitely felt different - and didn't really know what I should think about what I felt. But that kind of confusioon comes with the territory.
Serzone hasn't affected me sexually, other than the social aspect that I am starting to feel that I might soon start going out again to get some =^D.

We all react so differently, that I shouldn't be saying that this ofr that is going to happen, but here is what I felt.
When I started taking Serzone, first I noticed (day 1) slight sedative effect that made me feel a little better. The big disappointment came after 3-4 days, when the anxiety rollercoaster ride started. I was thrown into intense (but short < 24 hrs) fits of anxiety. Thre was also a new kind of edge to them: something rage-like. I have a way to handle rage: I consider it the flip side of crying - when I feel this intense rage I try to get home, go to bed and feel abundantly sorry for myself and hopefully make myself cry, which will takecare of the rage.

there are threads about serzone further up. One that I started when I was having the worst of my nights is called something like "In a dark, dark place. Help!" And there are others where people are discussing exactly the issue you were asking about.

I am glad it5 is over, but going through all that was definitely worth it, now that I am seeing the + side.
Dee

I also started Serzone about the same time as some other folks like Dee, and had a few weeks of extreme emotionality. Then I started to notice some AD effect. Unfortunately, then my depression got way worse, and so my pdoc had me raise my effexor dose, which has helped. Still taking the serzone, partly to augment the effexor, and partly to help me sleep. I take it late afternoon, early evening at the latest, because it seems to have a delayed effect for me, making me very drowsy in the early morning. It is hard for me to wake up. In general, I am more tired on serzone than before. I was taking trazodone before to help me sleep, and it had an intense faster acting drowsiness effect, but that wore off much quicker than the serzone.

How long did you take trazodone before it wore out? I am now taking Serzone, & since about two weeks back trazodone for sleep.

Serzone like anything else may or may not agree with you. When it works it works great. Sometimes it doesn't. Only a personal trial will tell. I had great sex and sleep with it, though I got tired during the day if I didn't keep active. My depression worsened with higher doses and I eventually quit. The best results I've heard with Serzone involve slow patient titration up in dose in small increments.

Dee, I am not sure if your question is about how long in hours it took for the drowsiness of trazodone to wear off, or whether I had a poop out experience with trazodone over time. It didn't poop out really, except when I got more depressed, it did get less effective in helping me sleep. BUt its drowsiness effect started about 45 minutes after taking it (25 mg) and was gone by morning. With the serzone, it takes a few hours to start feeling sleepy, and it is not as intensely sedating as the trazodone, but I am so groggy in the morning, and like John, I tend to be a bit sluggish throughout the day, nothing major, but certainly a difference from the highly active feeling of the effexor and ritalin.

>I have been on Serzone since 6/11/99. I immediately could not sleep and so I took 2 dosed split up in the day. I experienced intense rage and very inappropiate anger over stupid stuff. I felt like I was on a roller coaster, somedays doing very well and other days doing awful with intense depression symptoms. I just increased my daily dosage to 500mg and am just starting to sleep without taking Trazadone. I am also slowly trying to take all doages at night as originally prescribed by me Dr.
I weigh approx 110 pounds and have maintained this very easily and have absolutely no problems claiming a great orgasm - to be blunt!!!.
I no longer have the rage and anger and am hopeful (knock on wood) that all will continue to go as well as it has for me!!
Take care all!!!
