Psychologist for Anxiety Disorders: Toronto

Posted by Bones on August 17, 1999, at 8:44:00

Can anyone recommend a (good) Registered Psychologist, in and around the Toronto (Canada) area? He/She should specialize in psychotherapy and other therapies (biofeedback, relaxation therapy) for me. I have suffered from OCD and social anxiety (and other anxieties), since I was 15 years old. (I am now 40 - yikes!!) I've been very bad over the last few years - going on and off of different SSRI's. (On a small dose for a month, off again for a week - on again.) I seem to be able to function without AD's if I'm not working. (Although I struggle - I don't feel depressed, but don't feel the apathy I do when I'm on AD's.) I just can't seem to cope with the additional stress of working (it's a relatively "public" sort of job). And yes, I have contemplated changing professions - not easy - financially, my family needs the stable income.

I know the best Psychic - she's in Toronto

>She has helped me as much as my psychiatrist with my anxiety and depression. Sometimes she has troubles reading people with mental illnesses so it's best to send her a picture of yourself first. Let me know if your interested. She's $90 for a half hour, which is expensive. I actually went to her for counselling and it was very successful. I'm definately not cured but I have a great understanding of everything which helps me tremendously. I miss Toronto. I love that city. Janice

Thanks for your response Janice, can you help me out ... how exactly can a psychic help me with my OCD and social anxiety?? I don't mean to sound critical, just curious. (Unfortunately, I can't afford the $90 fee anyway.) Part of the reason I was asking for a Registered Psychologist was that my health plan at work would help cover the costs. (And you're right Toronto is a great city. I love it here too.)

Bones, today I was just wandering about my day and suddenly I thought of you, and into my head popped the name of a therapist I saw in Toronto. She is a medical doctor who specializes in psychotherapy. She's not a psychiatrist, but she's covered by OHIP. I only saw her about 3 times only because it took me 2 hours to get to her office by the TTC, one way. She is at Sheppard Ave East, not as far as Scarborough. She is really tough, somedays I thought 'holy shit why is she looking at me like that?'. But I thought she was really good and I think she cares deeply. Her name is Julie Wrighter - she's in the phonebook, and she was very organized. If she is nto in the phonebook I have spelt her name wrong, let me know if this is the case. She called me back really quickly; calling people back quickly is something that only happens in Toronto-I'm in Vancouver. I'm not sure what she thinks of medication. I would definately consider medication for anxiety and OCD. Good luck. My sister just got a good psychiatrist in Toronto. he is at Sheppard and Yonge. Julie is great at therapy, and there is parking at her office. Major bonus!

The psychic has that 'extra gift'. My sister sat down with her and the psychic said 'okay, before we talk about this guy Ed, I want to ...". I mean you can't lie to yourself around her. She believes in psychiatry and says the best therapists are very intuitive, which is a type of pyschic energy (mostly emotional)-her gift is to see what she calls 'movies in her head' of the future. She is most definately not mentally ill! You're right, She is too expensive for regular therapy. Call Julie, your insurance will never run out. Soak up that heat for me, I rarely see the sun anymore, and people put the fan on here at 25 degrees. Janice.
