Hot all the time? Side effect?

Posted by Racer on July 20, 1999, at 11:52:51

I'm now taking Effexor XR (225 mg) and Prozac (10 mg), and suddenly I'm hot and sweaty most of the time. Last night I stayed at my ex-boyfriend's house, don't ask, and he says that I put in a lot of mileage thrashing about and was kicking off the covers constantly and trying to get away from him because I was so hot. This is not par for the course - I'm the one who was always trying to crawl into his pajamas with him to get warmer!

Has anyone heard about this sort of thing? Is it possible the drugs are involved? It's kinda yucky...

James here....

It is the effexor, a common side effect. When you add another AD often this causes increased blood levels of one or both. So if you had no problems on 225 mgs alone, adding prozac will increase blood levels of Effexor. It is important to watch this, because levels can get quite high, esp in XR meds. With me the sweating lessons in a few days but you might want to consider a dose reductiuon of the Effexor as Effexor is XR and Prozac lasts for weeks. i.e a reduction today of effexor will take days to lower blood levels, and not overnite.

Hey kid, e-mail me some time ! I've been on Effexor + another AD (tried several) since 95
and would like so share some info from my experiences

If you are like me it will get better, but it is possible that you are now are getting an effective dose above 300 mgs. For me I take 100 mgs of effexor with remeron but if I take effexor alone I take 200-300 mgs (just effexor, not XR)

Hi Racer,

yes it's the effexor. I sweat myself silly last winter - even in minus 30 degree weather, I only needed a medium covering coat. Also, racer, I gained some weight, and suspected that this had alot to do with my sweating too. I was anorexic skinny before last winter.

Cynthia.
