ketosis and anxiety

Posted by Erik on November 8, 1998, at 0:02:56

Over the past few weeks I have become very, very agitated and anxious. I already had an anxiety disorder, depression, and ADD. Well, after a great many medical tests, someone finally noted that I have ketones in my urine. This, according to the doctor, explains the worsening of my anxiety and my weight loss. I have done what he says and eaten much more carbohydrates, and more food in general. After several days of this, my anxiety has dropped considerably (I can sleep again! Yeah!) but I noticed that my urine still seems to have "trace" amounts of ketones in it, after several days of forcing carbohydrates down my throat. And my weight loss has stopped (and I'm not longer dehydrated)... Is trace ketones a problem? Shouldn't there be none? I realize this is a medical and not a psychological question, but since it has such a great bearing on my psychology and I'm having trouble getting answers, I would like to ask it of anyone whose heard of the anxiety-ketone connection. Also during this period I've rather abruptly lost my appetite. Is this related to the ketone thing, or perhaps the depression worsening? I can't seem to see where my mental disorder begins and ends, and where the physical problems begin and end. I've been tested for diabetes with a blood test, and I don't have that apparently. If this question can't be answered here, can someone tell me of an internet site where I can ask it? It's really bothering me.

Erik
