There are no known interactions between Buspar and Pamelor. However, that have been some reports of an interaction between Buspar and Desyrel (trazodone) which caused an elevation of some liver enzymes. Whether damage was actually caused to the liver is unclear. I have used Buspar with Pamelor in numerous patients and they have had no problems. You just need to have an annual physical and check blood levels of the Pamelor and blood drawn to check the thyroid, liver and blood count -- just like anybody else who isn't taking meds.

Zoloft and Lithium

My mom told me that she was on Buspar and Pamelor for awhile. What are these two used for? I know that Zoloft and Lithium or Depakote are used for bipolar disorder. Can someone help me figure out this "mystery"? My mom is wondering the same thing since her therapist was just like my old one...never told her what was wrong with her. But she was on those drugs for awhile(I am bipolar and on Zoloft and Lithium).

Also, she acts just like I do if I forget my meds. or something...or if I have been off of them for awhile. HELP US!! We would really like to know what is going on with her! Could she be bipolar like me? I am a rapid cycler. I hate both highs and lows alike. She's not too rapid like me but she is a cycler!

Buspar is an anti-anxiety, Pamelor is a tricyclic anti-depressant.
My therapist doesn't really tell me whats wrong with me either...he might not really know yet. Maybe it's the same case with your mom. I personally don't think he would prescribe those two drugs for Bipolar Disorder. I was prescribed two anti-anxietys and an anti-depressant for panic attacks, OCD, and depression...and now Geodon for paranoia. The drugs can be prescribed for a LOT of different purposes, so it is hard to narrow it down to one reason she has been prescribed this particular combination. Maybe have her ask her doctor what his take is on her illness and what it is. Bless you and your mom.
