Looking for a job...questions

Posted by Angela2 on October 4, 2008, at 17:00:30

OK, so soon I will finally be looking for a job. What do I say on the application part that says "why did you quit your last job?" I left because it wasn't the right job for me and didn't get along with management. Any ideas on how to say this on an application would be appreciated.
Also, if I get an interview, what do I say about not having a job for 2 years? Thanks very much, I hope someone can give me some insight.

Cluelessly,

Angela2

Hi Angela,

I hate why did you leave your last job. Especially when for me the true answer was either I was fired for no good reason or I went into a major depression and quit.

In both cases I use "it wasn't a good fit." Now, some evil interviewers will push and ask why wasn't it a good fit, in which case I say "I don't believe in saying negative things about a former employer, all I'll say is that it was not a good work environment."

I'm a pro at lying about gaps in employment. Were you in school at anytime during the two years? In which case you say you were lucky that you could take time off work to complete your education. Otherwise I say "I was caring for a family member, I don't foresee needing to be the primary caregiver again."

I'm working part-time right now and I really need fulltime wages and I dread the thought of interviewing again. I like what I'm doing, I'm good at what I'm doing, the boss is just cheap. Argh. Sorry for the rant.

Good luck and I hope you luck out and land a good one.

I was also going to suggest 'took time off to go to school' too, because you were weren't you?
