Hi.

Have you posted a detailed list of the things you feel are helpful to mitigate antidepressant withdrawal symptoms including dosages? I would be very interested to know how each component contributes to the overall therapeutic effect.

Hi scott,

the list is in my post "Effexor side effects and withdrawal - this could help". Its a bit long but hey, I had time on my hands :)

There are a lot of sites out there that detail the (limited?) evidence of the efficacy of these compounds to alleviate the side effects of effexor - I went for a slightly unscientific approach of 'buy em all and see what happens'.

This site

http://www.naturalhealthweb.com/articles/esparza3.html

talks about tyrosine and phenylalanine, which affect norepinephrine and dopamine.

I read a theory that withdrawal syndrome is connected with acetylcholine, hence I added choline. Not only that but this compound is associated with memory and concentration, which for me were weak points. Ginkgo helps the brain deal with stress. Co Q-10 helps energy levels. Omega 3's help the brain overall.

A lot of herbal sites cite these compounds as being natural antidpressants, so maybe there is a link there.

I know this approach is a little bit sledgehammer and nut - apenname's approach may be a lot more elegant and kinder on the wallet.

Hope you find a solution!

Hi Ross.

Thanks for replying so quickly.

Ok. I'll look for it.

This is often as scientific as it gets! :-)

I think this might be particularly true of Paxil.

I'll check out the site.

Thanks again.

Hi there
Does anyone have any ideas about SAMe being useful in dealing with SSRI/SNRI withdrawal?

Hey I'd love to know if SAMe helps with withdrawal - we can't buy it in england :( However we do get our other drugs free ... national health service ... (sorry guys!)

I was looking into 5-HTP, a serotonin booster, and have been warned off it in conjunction with antidepressants due to something called Serotonin Syndrome. This can occur when you get TOO MUCH serotonin (sounds like heaven to me but what do i know...). This may be something to consider if you can get hold of SAMe.

Out of interest, am on day 9 of coming off, and still no symptoms. Will keep posting up to when I completely finish, which should hopefully be next week!

Hi all,

Just a little update. Am now down to 16mg XR and still no symptoms. Tomorrow I am going to try not taking anything and see what happens.

Will let you all know.

Oh yes have recently added green tea extract and sleep has become sooo good! Mind you , that could also be getting the effexor out my system :)
