Blue, you should REALLY talk to your doctor about this. I was on Effexor for a couple of years and had a terrible time with withdrawals. I don't have a clue how long it takes for someone to become dependant or what ever on it, but you shouldn't take this lightly, I was in the hospital from the throwing up part.

Take care and try to keep hydrated.

Ask your doctor about taking Prozac for Effexor discontinuation. It's very helpful and you only need to take 20mg for a couple of days. It totally takes the edge off due to it's long half life. If Lilly were smart, they should seek FDA approval for SSRI/SSNRI discontinuation use for Prozac, it really helped me through.

I called my doctor and told him that I stopped taking the effexor and now im having zapping in my head, horrible headaches and my heart keeps racing. He told me that the effexor could not do that and basically it's all in my head.

Your doctor is right -- in a way. It is your body's dependence on the Effexor that is probably doing that. Your brain has learned to rely on Effexor to supply the serotonin and norepinephrine and needs to relearn to do it itself.

I'm surprised that you're already seeing the symptoms after being on Effexor for such a short period -- but everyone's brain is different. You may try finding a doctor that knows a bit more about the brain's chemistry. My doc had an undergrad in Chemistry so he seems a bit more knowledgable than other docs I've had.
