A slight problem with religion

Posted by Phil on October 26, 2014, at 22:13:29

Jesus Christ did not have Facebook, held but a few close running buddies and had a few issues with one of them. Heaven is a question mark. Everything is a question mark except Him. He was here. We act on faith that he was God. We believe that. Ironically, we have the most lethal military on earth if someone else doesn't.

I wont be seduced into saying anything about that.

I don't understand the irony to be found in your statements. Perhaps it is best for it to remain unexplained.

Do you find beauty in existence?

Do you love your fellow man?

I guess these questions are really meant to be rhetorical and not designed to be answered.

As for me, I must admit my guilt of answering both questions in the affirmative. I don't seem to require much more than that to remain spiritually balanced, optimistic, and reasonably happy. I'm sure that I would be a great deal happier were I to have my health. However, I am truly grateful for what I do have.

I would only add that I always try to use all of what God gives me to work with.

Ok, go with George Carlin. We like killing Brown People. We're always killing Brown People.
Iraq, unprovoked. We kill Brown People and we're really good at it. No WMD but they have different religious beliefs. So, let's kill them.
We always kill many more good people than the bad ones.
Where's Lou? I need advice.

Without attacking anyones beliefs, i am just saying that i am an agnostic on the very atheist side of being agnostic.

I am a fan of loving your fellow man and i dont have any problems with most christians. I just dont think their beliefs are likely to be true.

One thing to keep in mind is that the good deeds of atheists might be more selfless in theory, because they dont expect to be punished or rewarded for anything in the afterlife.

Apologies first

According to Dawkins, I'm a de-facto atheist. (De facto atheist. Very low probability, but short of zero. "I don't know for certain but I think God is very improbable, and I live my life on the assumption that he is not there.") I'm 61 but when I was 35 I went to an established Southern Baptist church. I loved the Pastor and was Baptized. I go full circle. Even with church, I just didn't then, or now, believe in heaven or hell and many other tenents of Christianity. I was there for 6 months and wonder if it had more to do with religion or mania. My mother was dying and at the time, it was comforting. There are great lessons in the Bible.

I'm not stable. One day you might notice happy posts, the next day I'm not. I try to control the bad side but I just don't see it as bad when I'm actually writing it. Several worriers on FB are concerned sometimes. I suggest that they realize that I love my life, I'm not 'on the edge'. I'm trying to use my brain instead of upping or adding meds. So far, my brain still can't catch it. I appreciate you and Scott both. I just wanted to let you guys know that. That's my story.
