Ebola vs. Suicide--Worldwide

Posted by Phil on October 14, 2014, at 13:28:30

Ebola has killed ***4500 Worldwide***. *Suicide kills ***800,000*** A Year worldwide. What is the lead story on major networks except the Christian Science Monitor? Ebola. How many stories on suicide? Zero. Zuckerberg gave 25 million to throw at Ebola(he will make more from publicity) and so will other billionaires because it could kill a lot of people. (?) I mean it's an epidemic of 1 in America. My last comparison. I'm not anti-Ebola, I'm tired of year after year, a massive epidemic is killing people and it's never reported therefore, no money because, no publicity.

Of course AIDS has killed 36,000,000 and this could be way worse but I hope, as a country, we're a bit smarter these days....scratch that. It's just not true.

I saw an article in the NYT that said ebola was the worst epidemic in the modern world. The influenza epidemic of the 1920 killed 50m people. Polio killed or maimed millions. Like you say, suicide, AIDs, kill millions today. Not to mention malaria, cholera, thyroid fever. Then there are the hundreds of millions of children in India alone who are malnourished and fail to thrive.

I turn off the radio when ebola comes on (which is all the time) and don't read the papers about ebola. It's just hysteria. Craziness.

I feel like the media latches on to these stories and then beats them to death. Like the airplane lost in Malaysia -went on for weeks and weeks.

There are bigger problems in the world.

Take Ebola seriously.. Here in Charlotte one hospital was just designated as the one to take anyone thought to have Ebola. They think Body Fluids But they do not know. So now the CDC is taking it seriously after the RN in Texas got Ebola. Tried to say Breach of protocol in removing the protective clothing. Hence all RN's have their own malpractice insurance as hospitals will not cover them in something like this. Breach of policy is what is said. If they are deignating a hospital here to learn what they think is isolation for this virus. Mind you virus as no antibiotic will work then the CDC doesn't know the cause they are guessing. So pay attention to this one. Like the black plague gonna be all over here soon. Many people at Costco we saw are already stockpiling essentials that won't go bad. One girl I know is now back in Canada with her two children as she has family there to get out of here now. Stop the flights into the country. That's all. Phillipa

Take it seriously but don't read three column inch high bold print saying "MILLIONS COULD BE KILLED!!!" The first thing in a crises is not to lose your head. If I was CEO of Lilly I'd pull 25% of the scientist to work on a vaccine or cure. Whoever makes that drug will be rich and win the Nobel Peace Prize for Medicine. Scientists are very competitive. We aren't hopeless. Not today.

BTW, when this day is over as many as 2200 people have committed suicide worldwide. People only care when it's their *ss and they FREAK OUT. When it snowed 14" in San Antonio people were buying enough groceries for months!! The press is TELLING YOU what YOU should fear. It's as old as time, they are selling fear for dollars. They are cashing in. Ebola could stop at ten for all we know. or 100. That's possible isn't it?

I went out with a girl who's father was a researcher scientist whatever. This was when AIDS was really coming up. He said everyone in this country will personally know ten people with AIDS in ten years. That was 20-30 years ago. I don't personally know anyone with AIDS. freak out!!!

Seriously?? Two people in the entire US have ebola and there's people stockpiling supplies? I'm sorry but that's stupid.
