update again

Posted by baseball55 on May 11, 2014, at 19:29:34

Thanks for all the support I've gotten here.

I find that I am getting over all the anger/angst/fear/hurt/sadness/depression about leaving my husband. I bought a condo (well, almost. I still need to get the mortgage and close, which will happen in just two weeks!)

I find myself now thinking about what I need to buy, where to get movers, price-shopping for things like silverware (Target is cheapest), towels (TJMaxx is cheapest), dishes (Ikea beats them all). It's actually kind of fun, exciting. I'm feeling very positive.

Financially, it will be a strain, but my husband has been very reasonable and we've agreed about money and alimony without much conflict. Fortunately, we both have good jobs, so we'll be worse off, but not impoverished.

In retrospect, I should have left years ago. But I wasn't emotionally together enough to conceive of life on my own. I blamed myself for all the problems between us, when he bore a lot of the blame.

Oh in all seriousness find a brand that you like and go to ebay and google what you would like. Last night I was able to purchase a few products for less than elsewhere. A couple of years ago found a Duvet, Shams, Sheets, the works from Pottery Barn. Purchased at full price there. Then found same on ebay waited till arrived. When found exactly the brand and style returned originals to Pottery Barn. I got them for 1/2 the price of the store. Phillipa

:-) don't think about when you should have moved out, if you can help it. You're starting a whole new life, and that's exciting!

I think you really got it together quickly. It's exciting to shop for new things that'll just be for you, too. I'm with you on finding bargains- I need to manage my money carefully so I'm always looking for the best value.

Good luck on your move.

Thanks Poet. Taking practical steps helps keep me grounded. Like - okay, don't freak that he seems to be having an affair with a person I had regarded as a mutual friend (in addition to this other affair I discovered) - I am leaving, I am out of this, just think about what color towels I want in my bathroom. I went to a few furniture stores with a friend this afternoon and picked out a living room couch and chairs.

So that's how I'm keeping sane. How it will be once I've moved and settled in and have to deal with the actual reality of the situation, I can't say. But I'm trying to keep it in the day.
