"The Rings of Saturn"

Someone to read poetry to me.

Not an abbreviated talking book, either.

I had Brad Pitt reading out "The Crossing", and all the good deep dialogues were omitted. Waste of time.

It is important to have a good narrator isn't it?

I've "suggested" a particular perfume.
That's it, but I wouldn't mind a barnes and noble gift card for some audiobooks. :-)

A fellow audio book lover? Are you on Audible?

I'd hate to add up what I've spent in audiobooks over the last five or six years, even with their two books a month membership.

I could listen to Lisette LeCat read the phone book. Same with John Rubinstein. As much as I like reading Harry Potter, it's even better with Jim Dale. And Tim Curry is an audiobook treasure. :)

What sort of books do you like to listen to?

I think it's too late for what I really wanted. Prices skyrocketed in December. I love the lambie blanket from Bath & Body Works. I bought one for me, and two of the non-lambie ones for my husband and son, when they first came out. I also bought a couple more on eBay for backup. And one I'll be using to make a warm snuggly poncho.

http://reviews.bathandbodyworks.com/1884/3139885/reviews.htm?page=2

Mmmm..... Lambie Blanket.

I love my lambie blanket. I break it out as soon as the weather has a chill, and I wear it all winter, even when it's too warm (like now). I wrap myself in it on cold mornings. I wish I could be esconced in lambie blanket. I told my husband to bury me with my lambie blanket.

But, since that's no longer an option.

A few cookbooks, some Prairie Home Companion CD's, a book about Exterminator (my favorite racehorse), some regional books about New Orleans and New Orleans geneology, a video about Wales, and what I probably won't get - an enameled cast iron roasting pan.

Not that I'll get all of those, or even any of them. But my husband asks for a list and I'd rather it not be a shopping list, so I give him ideas and choices.

I'd really love some of my son's artwork. He's really very good. But he doesn't like us to see his artwork, so I doubt I'll get that.

My father used to get me a cottage every year from Lilliput Lane. He'd even go choose it himself, which was extraordinary considering that my father did *not* shop. He refused to step foot in anything but grocery stores in general. So it was extra special. I think I'd like another cottage, but... No. Maybe I wouldn't. It wouldn't be the same.

Dinah, do you get the entire book with that, or is it edited?

Merry Christmas. I just got up. The trees are out there looking like triffids.

http://www.audible.com/

They have both unabridged and abridged. And a few dramatized performances. Some podcasts, I think. You get one or two credits a month, and the credits are good for nearly all books. You can also buy extra books and they have a lot of sales. I think it might be owned by Amazon. I'm not sure. I'm also not sure whether it works in Australia. The selection is large but they don't have everything. Harry Potter still isn't available.

I listened to "the girl with the dragon tattoo", and the other two groups in the trilogy, before that was "Jane eyre", the twilight series, another book by Stephanie Meyer called "the host". I've got something now called "anatomy of deception", but I'm not that into it. I also listened to "a discovery of witches", but I wasn't that into it either.

I've been on audiobook hiatus. I need something really good now.
I don't know about audible.
I was getting free downloads from my library's website, but sometimes what's fun in the bookstore isn't in the library.

I meant "the other two BOOKS in the trilogy"
Automatic spell correct does weird things with my words I think, or I'm just messing up my words.

I keep forgetting my library. It's been a while since I've checked, and they have audiobooks as well as Kindle books. I'll have to look into that.

I've got Jane Eyre with Juliet Stevenson as reader. It's in my "To Read" pile. I have the sense that I was never overfond of Jane Eyre, but I think maybe it's Wuthering Heights I didn't much care for. Did you enjoy it?

My favorite Bronte book is by sister Anne. I listened to "Agnes Grey" read by the very excellent Nadia May.

I can listen to Jane Austen's books over and over again.

Do you like the "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency [Unabridged, Audiobook]" series? I find it very similar to the Jeeves and Wooster books, light reading and amusing. I really like the narrator. I was reluctant to start it, but once I did I was charmed and listened my way through the entire series.

A bad book can be even worse in audio, though. I remember threatening to scream the next time I heard a word some author was particularly fond of. In books I can skim over without noticing. In audiobooks, it stands out like a particularly annoying squawk and hurts my ears.

You might want to check out the Audible site even if you don't join it. It might give you ideas about well regarded narrators. I think there are some audio book groups on Goodreads, too.

"Jane eyre" was ok. I didn't so much care for the stuff toward the end, but it was interesting enough to keep me engaged. That's what I want, something that will really hold my attention.
I didn't know about the ladies detective agency.
If you can stand Augusten Burroughs, I think "magical thinking" and "dry" were not bad.
I think I want "a tale of two cities" next. Do you know if it is any good?
