I remember Peter Paul and Mary and the Mamas and Papas. The female in mammas and pappas died choking on a piece of meat. Phillipa

Friends,
I apologize for posting more then 3 consecutive posts. The exception is for the social board but in a tribute, there could be different interpretations as per the exception to the rule that I just realized and I apologize for the more than 3 consecutive posts.

Hi Lou

I was going to post this yesterday, but then I wondered if it was a bit insensitive?
Perhaps it's not.

Sigismund,
Marlene was strongly anti-Hitler and left Germany to comne to the U.S. in around 1930. She became an American citizen before the U.S. entered the war. She died in the early 1990's and we shared a love for great automobiles. She had a 1935 Cad that could still be in someone's hands. It was magnificant...like her...said to be the greatest female actress.

Lou, there was a film about her life that I have not seen but read a review of years ago.
Perhaps you know of it?
It may have been a problematic film or at least not a happy one.
It was, in any case, revealing.
What I recall from the review is that Marlene is talking to the camera being interviewed, and the interviewer recalls some words (I don't know from where) which were *something* like
'There is no greater suffering than to recall former happiness later when in misery.'
and she goes to pieces on camera.

I'd like to see it.

It's probably this, from Wikipedia

>In 1982, Dietrich agreed to participate in a documentary film about her life, Marlene (1984), but refused to be filmed. The film's director, Maximilian Schell, was only allowed to record her voice. He used his interviews with her as the basis for the film, set to a collage of film clips from her career. The final film won several European film prizes and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary in 1984. Newsweek named it "a unique film, perhaps the most fascinating and affecting documentary ever made about a great movie star".[5]
