Finding out what movies I like/dislike

Posted by Deneb on June 30, 2009, at 8:07:31

I'm renting a lot of movies.

What do you think of Lost in Translation? Like it or Not?

I hate Lost in Translation. I know it got lots of awards or something, but I totally do not get that movie. It was soooo boring. There wasn't much action or talking in the movie, just a lot of silent moments.

What do you think of Liam?

I liked Liam, it was interesting, but it wasn't great or anything. I learned about Catholicism.

What do you think of Mean Girls?

I liked Mean Girls. It was a fun movie.

What do you think of 28 Days Later?

I really liked this movie. I like the action and the zombies.

What do you think of Sicko?

I thought it was a good documentary, shocking.

Please give me some ideas of what else to rent.

"Waltz with Bashir" is good.

"Let the Right One In"is a Swedish vampire movie I liked but apparently the subtitles are no good on the DVD.

"The Band's Visit" was a great little movie.

I found Lost in Translation patently boring.

(I love using "patently"!!! LOL) I am not even certain that it's used properly, but it feels neat to use it there!

I haven't seen any of the other ones. I'll mention movies I've liked. A lot will be older ones, because I forget most of the newer ones I have seen (scarey fact re my memory).

One of my most favourite movies is The Spitfire Grill.
Other favourites:

The Joy Luck Club (26 kleenex movie for my daughter & I)

The Mission (Wonderful music; lovely scenery; tragic near the end but I loved it anyway)

Once - great movie.

August Rush - great movie.

Rob Roy

Gosford Park

Ronan - action - great move; great fast-car scene that is real (not computer generated)

Junebug - has SUCH a sweet young woman in it as a main character.

Big Trouble - LOVE this movie. I found it really, really funny.

What About Bob - with Bill Murray - love this movie. I don't think this would spoil the plot: About a man who depends BIGTIME on his therapist, pesters therapist, & eventually guy gets healthier while pretty-well driving his therapist crazy in the process. Funny.

What type of movies are you particularly interested in?

:-) Kath

Oh Shoot - how could I forget?

Death at a Funeral (I found this hilarious)

The Green Butchers (VERY dark humour, but I found it really funny) I'm pretty sure it's subtitles.

I might add some as I think of them.

I liked The English Patient

And I LOVED Lawrence of Arabia although it's best seen on a huge screen - I saw it at Ontario Place in Toronto on a big big screen.

The scene with the sun rising scintillatingly over the horizon on the desert is wonderful.

You're welcome.

You're the first person I've talked to who has seen The Spitfire Grill. Wasn't it wonderful!!

I first saw it at the theatre with my husband. A lady a few seats back was simply sobbing near the end!! I had to really control myself of I would have been also.

I actually was able to buy it used, so have seen it again. Wasn't that character an amazing young woman? She was so Good! I think you might like Junebug then. It depends. The Junebug girl is very very special also. The movie is quite different, but that part is similar.

I'd be interested to know what you think of any of the movies.

:-)) Kath

I also liked Napolean Dynamite » Deneb

The only 2 movies I have seen
from you list are Lost in Translation and Mean Girls. I did not like Lost in Translation because, like you, I thought it was boring. I also thought it was predictable and I couldn't really get into relating to the characters.
I saw Mean Girls and thought it was funny.
I have not seen Sicko but I heard it is a good documentary.

Recommendations..um, I saw a movie recently called "New Waterford Girl" which I thought was cute. maybe you'd like it too.

"New Waterford Girl"

Every/any time you revise your post, you have to do the Amazon linking step at the bottom again. It "loses" the choice you made. So it's best to do that part last, after you have any other parts of your post exactly as you want them.

That's the usual reason mine don't work....

Personally, the best movie ever made-- to me -is "Slingblade" If Billy Bob Thornton screws up everysecond of the rest of his life(he's doing pretty good at it) He will have always been cool in that moment.I just think he needs to lay off of drugs. And if it's not drugs----he's really in trouble.
