2nd interview tomorrow...

Posted by TexasChic on January 19, 2009, at 18:09:44

... at the place I interviewed at last week. I'm supposed to look at some sample jobs and tell them how I would handle them. I really like the place. It only has six employees, but they've been in business for 16 years, although they've recently started handling only nonprofit accounts. I think I'd really like to work there. So wish me luck!

You've been doing all the right things. I had a good feeling after the first interview, and the call-back is a real positive sign. I really hope you let us know you got the job.

Good news bad news...

First off, thanks for the support you guys! The interview went really well! I think I have a good chance.

The bad news, which kind of puts a damper on my good feelings, is I just read an email from the place I was working part time saying they decided not to keep me on. They had another person come in, and they said she knows InDesign really well and also had done some work for some of their clients making ads and knows what they want. They said they would keep me in mind for freelance work. At least I'm drawing unemployment now.

I'm trying to stay positive, but the truth is I'm very upset about this. Its like I keep doing badly at my jobs or something! I know that's not necessarily true, but I can't help but think that way.

I had a feeling something was up, she had told me she had another graphic artist coming in because she wanted to have two part time people working alternate days. Then she didn't have me come in all last week. Then she didn't need me yesterday, and asked me for my email address to send me an email today to tell me about my hours for the rest of the week. Instead she sends me an email telling me they're going to go with the new person. Its so disappointing.

So there it is. I still think I have a good chance with the other job, but right now all I can do is be sad about this one. Maybe I just need the opportunity to 'mourn' it. But then, I guess its the rejection that's really getting me down rather than the loss of the job itself.

Well, I emailed her and thanked her for the opportunity she'd given me and said I hoped she would consider me for freelance work in the future. She replied back that they would definitely have work for me in the future she just wasn't sure when it would be. So that made me feel a lot better - not quite so rejected.

Hi TexasChic,

I can't stay positive when it comes to not getting jobs or being let go from them. I take the rejecton personally.

T keeps telling me it's the economy and not me that my current job is only part-time. I found out they are hiring another part-time person (position pays less) and she said it's cheaper than making you fulltime. I can't see it that way, I see it as a rejection.

I'm sorry you lost your part-time job, and I hope they do call you for freelance work. If it's any consulation you get more unemployment if you don't work. I plan on filing for an extension of mine as even though I don't get much because I am working I need the little I can collect.

I hope we both get fulltime jobs that appreciate our talent and dedication.

Thanks Poet! Yeah, I take it personally too. Its hard not to! I mean, somewhere along the line its got to be a little bit personal! It doesn't necessarily mean we deserve it though!

I actually receive more money with unemployment when I'm working. They subtract what I make, but from a larger amount then what I would receive otherwise (if that makes any sense).

I called that place from a couple of months ago

The one where he told me to call back mid to late January. He told me he's in the process of merging another small company with his, and isn't in the position to bring someone on just yet, but to call back this time next week and check back in with him. So hey, another possibility! This guy is really nice, he has a very easy going, joking personality. He has a small company that his sons and a couple of their friends work at with him. It seems like it would be a low stress job. I am still hoping for the one I interviewed at this week, but more options are always better, right?

Hi TC,

Sorry - just checking in now. Missed the whole thread. This week just seems to have zoomed by for some reason & I've been out of touch with the days.

The good thing is, it seems she might very well call you again. AND then this fellow who says call him next week - that's promising. And that you feel positive about the newest one, right?

I'm so glad you're on unemployment insurance.

Keeping my finger & everything crossed for ya TC.

luv, Kath
