The color test

Posted by Bobby on December 13, 2008, at 23:45:18

I'm not up to a challenge this late---but I got 50% the first and only time.

My result:

>Your score = 25%

>A distinctly below average performance.

>The old left/right brain struggle.

Of course I didn't understand a word of how it worked.

Exactly the same:

>25%

>A distinctly below average result.

And I did it differently, which is to say I clicked the mouse much more often.

There is that big word up the top, which obviously has something important to do with it.

I thought I'd worked it out.

Then I got

>0%

>That was a truly shameful performance.

I'm feeling uncertainly proud of myself.

I found it helps to watch it all go by one time without clicking, and simply talk yourself through it. Also note which colors are used.

I found myself looking at the word and saying (silently) "I'm looking for something red" if the word was colored red. 4 seconds is actually a long time if you are calm. Doing it systematically I got 100% (up from probably 25% before - I quit early the first two times).

Evidentally I'm a freak because I didn't have any trouble with this at all.

I always knew my wires were crossed.

Seldom

I find it pretty easy now I've got the hang of it. I got 13% on the first go (didn't read the rules), then 100% thereafter once I figured out what was going on. It's easier to just ignore what the word at the top says, say the color in my head (or out loud), then look for it at the bottom.

Me either, got 100% the first time. And I also know my wires are crossed AND tangled.

But, I have taken these before, although it was at least 5-6 years ago.

And I know my own brand of ADD so well, I know the hyperfocusing ability of it helps me make this exercise easy. But the level of concentration necessary makes it obvious why it would be so easy to 'slip.' I am able to put my mind into a zone, and that's what works.

The crappy thing is, I can't so that at will, IRL.

I do understand the basic principle of a game that may or may not be the same as this one.

You know the one where you are shown a word written in yellow that says 'pink' and asked 'what colour do you see?'

I understand *that* game.

Of course, some of you may be on effective doses of psychostimulants?

With an outstanding score of 0%, all I should have to do is do exactly the opposite?

After a short chat with my son, I manged to get 75%.

This is why I don't have a mobile phone.

How do you people get to be so smart?

I must be suffering from the idiocy of rural life.

I'll take a person who can think slow---ponder--and reason--over a fast clicker every time. Of course---that means I'll probably be one of the ones who are left behind in the great race to be number one.

I was so mad that my test wasn't working right because I kept getting 0% when I was clearly answering every question correctly!!! Turns out when I skimmed through the instructions I read it wrong. I'm glad I didn't post my frustration about the !@#$% malfunctioning game right away!

In school cadets they tried to teach me to march.

'You bring your left arm forward as you bring your right leg forward.'

I couldn't quite understand what they were saying, but it seemed all wrong.

'If you walked like that you would fall over.'

'No no, this is how everybody does it.'

One way or another, this was more serious than I'd thought.

You mean you worked it out in 5 minutes?

That is almost as worrying as caraher saying that 4 seconds is a long time to make a decision (if one is calm).

At least certainly classes of trivial decisions... but one thing I've noticed is a lot of people are taking their performance as though it reflected their intelligence or worth. Phillipa wrote "shameful" of her performance. It's not at all!

Part of the challenge is also the kind of "testing" environment presented. Seeing the time bar slip away induces some anxiety, particularly if you're already feeling nervous about doing well. I guess that's part of my "if you're calm" observation - the first few tries I recall a few trials where that bar slipping away distracted me from processing what was on-screen.

I wonder what someone from a slow-paced, non-technological society would think of the game. Would they laugh at it? Would they wonder what the hurry is to get the answer?

I think this might also go back to that following directions thing. Reading directions and thinking one thing when they really mean doing another.

Of course!

Quite probably; we're trained at school.
For every gain there's a loss.
I don't know if it could be true, but I read that in the past people could navigate by the stars that they could see in the day time.
If that isn't true, it certainly is that indigenous cultures knew how to read plants
