Goodbye... again *trigger

Posted by Toph on November 22, 2008, at 14:06:20

Lots has been happening lately to me, to us. So while the firmware is downloading on my receiver I thought I'd share a little of it with you. We just got over a contentious election that really mattered to me and our country immensely. I really think that with the world's economy collapsing we needed the two candidates that we had so that we were forced to make a fundamental choice on who was going to lead us out of the abyss. I can't tell you how pleased I am with the outcome. It has renewed in me a faith in our democracy that I wasn't sure would ever return.

Last Tuesday my coworker's husband drove their developmentally disabled son to a park. He dialed 911 and then shot his son to death before turning the gun on himself. The horror of the event pretty much paralyzed our whole unit as we supported Beth and tried to make sense of the tragedy. Beth and I have worked together 15 years. She trusts me with any case and I would easily hand over any of mine to her. I love her. She has had so much misfortune in this life. The car where this occured turned out to belong to that of our corporation counsel, our former friend who represented us in court when we filed a petition to protect a client. Beth discovered that her son and her husband died in the car of her husband's lover. I have struggled to make sense of this insanity. All I could do aside from holding Beth as she has sobbed for days was to write a letter to my wife and each of my children telling them how much I love them.

My participation has picked up on Babble in the midst of this tragedy as I observed intolerable insensitivity and prejudice on a couple boards here. I have to leave again because there is so much more important things going on in real life that I have to attend to. I am old now and can't afford to get as far behind at work as I have now become. I am a cronically mentally ill person who I envision could have been euthanised by a distraught father had it not been that I had the great fortune of having been born after the discovery of lithium. Be kind to one another here. I love you guys too, even those of you who I don't really know very well. Life can be so cruel that we don't need to make it any any worse than it has to be.

I am so saddened, but I understand :-( (nm) » Toph

you are a wonderful part of this world that unfortunately can be so judgmental, harsh and cold. I am sorry you're going through such painful stuff right now.

I hope you might find some comfort here again someday. Be well and take good care.

Toph, chronically ill IS as chronically ill DOES

I am grateful for Lithium, if that is the chemical that has enabled you to participate here as a voice of reason, moderation and hope.

peace,

What a tragic situation on so many levels. And a shocking one, in the more literal sense. You must be reeling. My thoughts are with your coworker and with you.

I hope you do return when you feel Babble can again be helpful to you. Although we may not always agree on specific topics, I appreciate your commitment to fairness, and I appreciate your presence here. I'm not one to use this type of words easily, but I do care about you and wish you the best.

And since you're a dog person, I'll remind you to make time to spend with your dog. Sometimes they're pretty darn good healers.

That's an understatement!

I need to remind you not to post anything that could lead others to feel accused of insensitivity or prejudice. But please don't take this personally, this doesn't mean I don't like you or think you're a bad person.

I'm sure there are others here who can identify with the boy, too. Euthanasia is controversial, but I'm glad everyone here is here.

Speaking of which, please do attend to things in real life, but please also remember that there are lots of people here who care about you and would value an opportunity to support you through this.

Bob

life can be cruel. Clearly your experience has been rough. I imagine you bathed in love- well why not. I too have had these hard experiences as a child. We all grow, yes I know it's hard. Toph, I have always appreciated you and your contribution here at PB. I come back here to visit and learn how you are doing. My love to you and your family.
