I'm going on the Babble trip in May and I'm wondering whether our CAD will continue to fall?
This is going to get expensive!
Should I exchange for USD now? Or wait?
It's below about 0.79 USD now. Sucks for travellers to the US.

The A$ is falling too.
It was almost at parity with the US$ and now it's down 30c, I think.
The whole thing is a mystery to me.

It looks like the US dollar is recovering relative to most "western" currencies. (Graph the past 120 days for the Euro, Canadian dollar, etc. - they all look about the same: http://www.x-rates.com/d/CAD/USD/graph120.html)
My wild guess is that the credit crunch makes US dollars hard to come by, so their value has increased relative to other currencies. But I'm no economist.
Here's a forecast: http://www.forecasts.org/exchange-rate/canada-dollar-exchange-rate.htm
No idea how much faith to put in it...

You mean the rest of the world is in economic crisis too? What does that mean for us? Phillipa

The whole system is tied together rather tightly, so it's pretty hard for the US to have a crisis all by itself!
I suppose it means we're all in this thing together. I'm not sure whether that's good or bad.

Maybe only the countries that subscribe to the Washington consensus?
China and Russia are OK?
India? Brazil? No idea.

Thanks for the sites!
It shows the dollar might go up a bit in Feb. so I'm going to wait a while before exchanging money.
Next time our CAD is on par with the USD, I think I'll set up a USD account for myself, since I'm traveling more now.

Heard the American dollar is now higher than Australian or Canadian. That is worrisome to me. Phillipa

Yes, PJ, no good for exports from the US.
I liked what Warren Buffett said....
