Pottery Sale - success on first day even!

Posted by Kath on May 9, 2008, at 9:24:18

WELL - as 'set-up day' (day before sale) is always one of my most stressful days of the year, I did pretty well this year as I actually enjoyed the process of setting my creations out on the table; figuring out how to make it look artistic & interesting.

I had a friend take a pic of me standing in front of table & I took pics of my stuff.

I plan to ask hubby to help me get it into some kind of form to let anyone who wants to see it do so.

SO show opened yesterday at 10 am & by 5 pm I had sold 18 pieces!!!!! YAYYYY.. About 28 other potters in show also, so I'm sort of blown away that I'm doing so well.

I wish I didn't have this underlying yucky feeling. It's the background low-level worry/concern - I dunno......."dread" is too strong a word....maybe apprehension...about what might happen with my son. I hate it.

I liken life somewhat to a cloudy day when the sun pokes out of the clouds once in a while.

I CAN enjoy things - my pottery; my gardens; flowers; walks in nature. But underlying, there's always a 'dragged down' feeling.

Or that's how it feels recently. I can't remember if I felt like this before I cut back on my St. John's Wort & 5HTP. I can't remember if I actually felt OKAY.

ANYway, I'll end on a positive note. It feels wonderful to have all the prep for the sale over. I was pretty stressed for a few weeks. It feels wonderful to know that people get enjoyment out of something that I get enjoyment out of doing! Making pottery. Lots of flattish rippled dishes this time with dragonflies, butterflies, fish on them. Also lots of spring-coloured earrings & necklaces.

Congratulations on your success!

I totally empathize with the duality of your feelings, too - and discouragement of not being able to be totally happy about your sale while the rest of your head is worried about Other Stuff.

I've never been able to create a filing cabinet in my head to put those worrying thoughts away while I try to enjoy the moment I'm currently in. I've always been a total package kind of person, all smooshed together, the worries with the gladness. It's the way I am - I'm trying to be more accepting of that person, and that, I think, is the way to greater comfort.

Good luck with the rest of the sale!
CS

Thx Phillilpa,

I think you might be right. Even today I'm feeling somewhat better. Although part of that might be that I talked with son & he said that he hadn't smoked weed for a week.

Sad state of affairs that a week weed-free is BIG, right??!!

He also said that a concert that he went to last Sunday really 'did him in'. I know he had planned to do drugs (I imagine ecstasy or "K" - ketamine) at the concert. He's been really tired all week & I am glad that he is recognizing that whatever he did at the concert had a detrimental effect on him! That's a good thing.

So because there's that positive stuff (or what I can see as partly positive) - I automatically feel somewhat better.

I had been feeling badly, partly because I had thought he was doing weed for a few weeks, WAY more than he had been for quite some time.

It's like his life is the barometer for how I feel.

Anyway, I think now that the sale stress is over, I WILL be able to cope somewhat better.

thx for your support, luv, Kath

Well! I sold 38 pieces!! I am very pleased. This is the best Spring Sale for me so far. In fact, last Nov was my very best & this ties with a Nov sale some years ago as second best.

I sold 16 pieces of jewellry - earrings, brooches & necklaces.

Now that it's over, I do feel quite a bit of stress lifted.

thanks for your support.

luv, Kath

PS - I'm going to get DH to help me with the photos.

Big hugs to you! Congratulations! (nm) » Kath

Thx TC - I've been thinking about you & was going to post & see how you are & how things are going with your brother & Mom.

I haven't got hubby to put photos from my camera onto computer yet.

Procrastinating!!

It is still in my mind though!

Hope all's well with you. luv, Kath
