I'll do that, thanks! I had never heard of a "life coach" before I read it last night. It just sounded so cool and like just what I was looking for. Help with:
relationships
your career
spirituality and inner peace
figuring out what's missing from your life that keeps you from being happy
reducing stress
ect.

But if they don't take insurance, forget it. I'm glad you told me about that. I should have known it sounded too new agey not to be expensive. I'll take the traits that stood out to me with these life coaches, and look for them in therapists that DO accept insurance.

Okay, I've covered work, relationships, and psychology. Anyone want to talk meds or politics? I could just see Dr. Bob trying to figure out where to redirect this thread! ;-)

I'm kidding of course. I suppose I should branch out and look at the other boards sometimes. But that would involve the ever dreaded subject of CHANGE!

Oh well, (Sigh) I GUESS I can give it a try.

Thanks! It seemed as if I was a perfect fit. They acted pleasantly surprised when I understood and was able to respond to all their questions. And there's so much opportunity to advance there! I so hope I get it! But if not, I will continue to try. I know I'll eventually get there as long as I don't give up.

Thanks! I'm still waiting. I felt like I was going crazy today! Its almost worse because the interview went so well, because now I have to keep reminding myself it may not happen. If that's the case I will keep trying, there's no doubt about that, but this one just seems so perfect! And it would be such a relief to get out of my current job where they work me half to death!

I almost wish I hadn't even tried. Now I know the job I wish I had, which makes all I put up with in my current one seem even worse! I'm sitting here at work crying and I'm afraid my boss will see and want to know what's wrong. I've got to get it together.

The funny thing is they recommended me for the other position, which is the other one I interviewed for and didn't get. Its like I'm close, but keep getting beat by someone else.

Well, there is another department that I would like to work in, there just haven't been any postings. I just wish I hadn't had this comparison that made me realize my current job sucks so bad.

Anyway, I'll talk more later. I'll be okay, I'm just really disappointed at the moment.

It turns out the other job they recommended I apply for isn't the same one I interviewed for a few months back. Its just very similar and involves a lot of the same people. So I talked to my boss (I made a big thing about them recommending me so she wouldn't think I was applying for the next available thing) and applied for it. So we'll see what happens!

I think this is the perfect forum to do just that! (And I'm not in the least surprised, btw.) From what you've said about her thus far, she's not the best boss on the block....

there is something to be said for being unemployed (?) Did I really just say that??

Heh, heh! You're not lying!! I've talked before about how everything is fine unless I make a mistake (as is normal in the human race). The way she responds is just so over the top! In the midst of a crazy time, one of my people had to remind me to send her a document, although in my defense it wasn't completed yet because other contributors were late. I got a message today from my boss saying, "just to be clear, you are to turn in blah, blah, blah, when blah, blah, blah. This has not changed, we have always done it this way". I replied, "As I usually wait until the document is complete, and this one wasn't, I didn't forward it to her. However in the future, I will keep in mind that I need to make sure this person gets the info even if the other people involved are late". She replied, "We have never waited until this document was complete. This is not something to keep in mind, it is the procedures we go by." That's a rough retelling of it anyway. I was livid!

We're supposed to have a happy hour with another dept on Friday. Man, the last thing I want to do is spend MORE time with her! I do like the people in the other dept though. Actually, EVERYONE commiserates with me. Its well known throughout the company how difficult she is. I'm just at a loss. I can put up with ALOT of crap (and have!), but even I have my limits!

> there is something to be said for being unemployed (?) Did I really just say that??

I'd love to be unemployed if I could... you know, actually avoid living on the street or something. Besides, 'you're' not exactly unemployed with you new business!! You are a bonafied entrepreneur!

Jeez TC,

I think you deserve the badge of honour for:

"Showing most restraint in the face of undue provocation towards homicidal actualization"

Did you know about that award?????

Yo - You Got It!!!

She sounds perfectly horrendous or might one say a Beeeeach!

Enjoy the other folks at the happy hour. Does that mean you all drink???

luv, Kath

PS - as everyone else knows what she's like, what it really means is that everyone probably admires you like HECK that you don't do something to NOT get the above-mentioned award!!!

No I didn't know about that award!!! Woohoo! I win! Thanks!!!

> She sounds perfectly horrendous or might one say a Beeeeach!

I had a coworker recently call her that in reference to her treatment of me, and it was kind of a surprise coming from this person.

The sad thing is, she's not even the worst supervisor I've ever had! The worst fired me because the work load tapered off, and she made up things I did wrong to make sure I didn't get unemployment. This one may come in a close second though.

> Enjoy the other folks at the happy hour. Does that mean you all drink???

Oh heck yeah, its all about the drinking. I just don't even want to be in the same vicinity as her. She's not exactly low key.

> PS - as everyone else knows what she's like, what it really means is that everyone probably admires you like HECK that you don't do something to NOT get the above-mentioned award!!!

I'll have to keep that in mind when I feel like I'm about to lose it!

In reply to Better news, posted by TexasChic on January 25, 2008, at 17:45:47

Actually I was kind of expecting it, it was the same person I interviewed for before that said I didn't have enough experience. So why did the other people who interviewed me for the same job say I'm a strong candidate??? Its just so confusing.

Then I realized where I really need to apply is not Marketing, but the Internet dept. So I email this girl, out of the blue, in the internet part of the company, here's our conversation:

Me:
I was looking at the organizational charts and saw an open position for Layout Artist under you. I was wondering if this information is current Ive been trying to get in over there. (Hopefully its okay to ask this). Thanks!

Her:
The chart you were looking at was from 2006. I have moved twice since then and I am sorry to say that I dont have any positions under me. I think there are some open spots over here that you could apply for. Have you looked online? Ill ask my boss too, I am pretty sure she is on the art hiring committee. I am sorry I cant do more.

Me:
No, thats great! Ive been looking online and Ive been to a couple of interviews in Marketing. This last one they said they had a hard time deciding between me and another graphic artist (this was _______ and in Advertising, theyd probably give me a good recommendation). It seems like Im always so close!
I thought maybe I would have more luck with your dept since my background is __________. Also, my long range plans include eventually getting into web design, so it seems like the internet dept would be a good fit for me. Id really appreciate if you were to ask your boss about positions. I also appreciate your helpfulness considering I just took a shot in the dark in emailing you I didnt know if you would respond. Thanks so much!

Her:
Its not a problem. My boss is one of the interviewers for our department. She said that she hasnt heard of any openings, but she will ask her boss to make sure. It will be next week before I can get back to you. He is out with pneumonia.
It sounds like you would certainly fit in over here. Ill let you know what I can find out next week.

I guess I'll just continue...

So I'm feeling pretty good and then I go to a dept meeting and they tell us the internet dept is downsizing, combining with another dept, and there will be quite a bit of layoffs.

So @#$%^!

I'm okay though. I think I've gotten back into the right frame of mind. I'm at least considering my future in the current dept. For a while there it was hard. I'm hanging in there!

Oh TC,

you're doing such a good job of plodding onwards.

You probably also win one of the "Plodding onwards in the face of down-pulling difficulties, while working for a boss who rates high on the 'bosses from hell' scale" Heard of THAT award?? ;-)

I am sorry about that dept downsizing; that must have been quite a disappointment. But getting your name 'out there' - it never hurts.

Thanks! I actually forwarded the first award to myself at work - it cheers me up!

The internet dept isn't totally out yet, its really the other part of the dept that is downsizing. But if there are any openings in the internet section, they will most likely offer them to the people getting laid off first. Which I understand of course, but hey, they can always have my job!!!

I'm still trying to figure out a way to find a future in my current job, if nothing else, it makes the waiting for another position easier.

A little news

Posted by TexasChic on February 6, 2008, at 20:01:38

In reply to Re: Didn't mean to post that last one yet! » Kath, posted by TexasChic on February 5, 2008, at 19:16:21

I emailed the girl in the Internet dept today. She asked her boss's boss about any open positions, and although there are none right now, there will definitely be some this summer when a couple of people retire. She said to send some of my work to a specific woman and she would put it on file for when those jobs open up. It made me feel better to have a plan. And when it gets right down to it, the internet dept is what I always really wanted rather than the Marketing dept. I think things turn out the way they are supposed to even if you don't realize it at the time. You just have to look for it. So if I'm patient, there is a chance to achieve what I 'really' want.

I think that the internet will be more stable in the future as opposed to printing and such. Things are just headed that way. To me its common sense. I've heard people say the printed product will always be there, but even if that's true (which I'm not so sure of), I think the internet will be where the majority of the jobs are. And where the demand is, is the place to be as far as I'm concerned. Not because I'm so materialistic or whatever, but because I'd like to be able to support myself and take care of my family. In my past, just the act of supporting myself was so beyond me that, it is what I strive for. And of course I love nothing better than to learn new programs. I'm a total geek that way. I may even decide to go into programing eventually, who knows?

I know I'm repeating myself, but it feels so much better just to have a tentative plan.

So Larbear, if you're reading, I'd be interested in what you think about my career goals. I know from your posts that you're feeling very vunerable (I so can't spell) right now, but I have a lot of respect for your opinion. Of course, if you don't feel up to answering, I totally understand. I feel that way myself sometimes. I think its VERY important to take care of oneself if you EVER want to stand a chance of helping OTHER people. That's been a hard lesson I've learned in life. Its so easy to think you should sacrifice your own needs for others, at least if you were raised to be all meek and mild like I was. But there comes a point when you can't possibly help others if you are sacrificing your own well being.

Anyway, I'm going on a tangent here so I'll quite. Thanks for listening anyone who read this far!!!

-T

P.S. I've had a few glasses of wine which always causes me to RAMBLE! So forgive me if I'm being mundane or whatever.
